The nation’s average price of gasoline has risen 7.5 cents over the last week and stands at $2.84 per gallon, according to GasBuddy® data compiled from more than 12 million individual price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country. The national average is up 3.6 cents from a month ago and is 23.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel rose 7.8 cents in the last week and stands at $3.543 per gallon.

“Average gasoline prices have jumped for a second straight week as oil prices have climbed back above the $60-per-barrel mark amid ongoing geopolitical tensions,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “New sanctions on Iran’s oil are making it more difficult for those barrels to reach the market, tightening supply, while the major winter storm that sent temperatures plunging is also likely to impact refineries, causing disruptions and reduced output. Diesel prices have jumped as colder weather boosts demand for heating oil, a combination that could keep both gasoline and diesel prices moving higher in the week ahead.”

In early Monday trade, a barrel of WTI crude oil was down 39 cents to $60.68, slightly higher than last Monday’s $59.17 per barrel fetch. Brent crude oil was also slightly lower in early Monday trade, down 33 cents to $65.55 per barrel, but still up from last Monday’s $63.07 per barrel fetch.

Refinery utilization fell 2.0 percentage points to 93.3%, while implied gasoline demand, the EIA’s proxy for retail demand, fell 470,000 bpd to 7.834 million barrels per day.

But but Trump was making everything cheaper!!! Maybe he will do his usual and take credit when it drops and then blame others when it goes up.

In Shreveport it was $2.07 last Thursday afternoon and on Friday evening it was $2.35. Stores jacked the price up when people started showing up in droves to fill their vehicles and cans.

It’s amazing how little people understand simple supply and demand concepts. There was a nationwide winter storm coming through thus week. Last week, demand sky rocketed as everybody fuels up and stores up. Prices now are still relatively cheap compared to recent spikes. It’s why after Labor Day, prices usually decrease as fuel demand declines. This has nothing to do with anyone in power good or bad.

So it’s almost a quarter lower than last year despite an increase.

Likely, but how does that explain your inability to read and understand, just like the OP?

Trump also promised that the cost of energy and gas, the natural kind use for heating, would be reduced by 50% within 12 months of him, taking office.

Prices were already going up before the demand due to the winter storm.

It’s almost as if there was an event people were prepping for that drove up demand across half the country.

Seems like I read something in the news.

I filled up in Ft Worth last Monday at $2.01 to drive to Austin. When I got back Tuesday afternoon, gas had jumped to $2.59.

Texas gas prices have always been volatile and have had drastic price spikes and declines.

My doctor prescribed me some medicated eye drops that help with tear duct efficiency. So since then...no. I don't tire of crying about Trump.

It’s funny how people get so caught up in the price of gasoline. Half the gas stations I go in the merchandise doesn’t even have a price on it and people buy without complaining. Gasoline goes up 10 cents and everybody freaks out. My dad would drive 20 miles to save a nickel per gallon.
