are you under the assumption that people just throw all of that away?

I work for a natural gas trading company...we make probably 80-90% of our profit for the year in January and February because of these storms.

Yes, of course.

Really just shifted consumer spending sooner, ahead of weather, in many cases. Only so much automobile gas tank capacity, food in pantry, etc.

Not dumb to be prepared in case sustained power outage, etc.

As for hysteria, hear you. Look no further than reward system in 24-hr news and click money.
