James Gunn Makes Controversial Decision for Next Batman Movie

While Matt Reeves continues to work on his follow-up to The Batman, James Gunn and the DCU are making arrangements for the Batman film that will be part of the greater cinematic universe. As much as people just want to see Robert Pattinson's Batman join the universe, it looks like that won't be happening.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson has been hired to write The Brave and the Bold, which will be another Batman adventure. It's safe to say that fans aren't necessarily thrilled with this choice.
Hodson's track record is questionable, to say the least. She is the one who wrote the screenplay for The Flash, which is reviled by much of the fan base. Now, it's not fair to kill her for one script for a movie that was notoriously hard to get off the ground.
However, she's also the writer behind Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Bumblebee and Shut In, which holds a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes. It's not like she has a movie like Marty Supreme on her resume.

While I liked Bumblebee, she's face planted in the DC universe. Why not pick the director of Penguin? Craig Zobel? Or one of the others? That was widely acclaimed by most fans.

He’s cooked, this movie may never even be made

Poor Batman. I fear he has no blood left to give.

OR Gunn isn’t ever going to make a Batman movie and Reeves will continue

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't DC built upon the foundation of Superman, Batman and Wonder woman?
He's clowned Superman, and seems not to be treating Batman as an afterthought.
Not a great plan.

There are hundreds of talented screen writers (heck, writers period) who would kill for the opportunity to write a great Batman screenplay?
Why does Hollywood regurgitate people?

Directors are cast, not hired, due to DEI standards.
That's the only way to explain this.

the flash has a 81% Audience and 63% critic score on RT
I thought it was one of those movies people actually said was pretty good but the lead was such a POS everyone avoided it

This has been known for a long time.

Quality wise it’s on par with Aquaman 2

Bumblebee
Well, this one has a 91% rating on RT.
Shut In was her very first movie, and the others... don't know. Was she told to fit someone else's vision or is it entirely her fault?
It doesn't fill me with a lot of confidence though...

Bumblebee was great.
The problem with The Flash wasn’t the script, it was with a bad lead and cheap CGI. Blaming the writer for that is stupid.
The Harley Quinn movie was peak crazy girlboss nonsense. There was no way that movie was going to be a success in any way shape or form but WB knew that, they just wanted an excuse to sell more Harley Quinn merch.
At any rate, she’s been working with James Gunn for 3 years on the overarching DCU story so I’m not really sure what the issue is here other than some idiots assuming that just because she’s a female writer she’s automatically terrible. Doesn’t surprise me though. A lot of y’all are miserable and aren’t happy unless others are miserable too.

So now they’re losing money on purpose? The cope intensifies.

Or maybe ya know, it's the fact The Flash was a super mediocre outside of Keaton's performance, and the Harley Quinn movie was a festering pile of dogshit. Maybe that's why.
Bumblebee was excellent though, so hopefully she can channel that script writing energy for this. Gunn isn't exactly inspiring confidence with this choice though either way though.

Yeah, it says so in the posted article.
But I guess writing isn’t that important.

Gunn has about a year or two left at the helm of DC, if that. Once whoever (Netflix or Paramount) buys WB, he will be shite-canned and booted from his abomination of a tenure at the helm.
Netflix will make a much worse decision and destroy all WB IPs, while a paramount would likely save the stumbling DCU in some fashion.
Regradless, the age of $1B+ super hero films is all but dead outside of a few outliers.

Just awful.
Peak Gunn may have been almost a decade ago, baws.

He's got a particular set of skills that unfortunately grants him the ability to do ONE thing, and moderately well.
