Dude straight up had issues, but the PTB were dead set against recasting the mad goose wizard. Was it raw hubris because they don't want 'normies' having a say in the absolute cinema of a movie? Or did Ezra have something on somebody which forced their hand to keep him in for one last movie?
The choice defies explanation.

2 possible choices
Lauren LeFranc is an American television writer, producer and showrunner known for her work on The Penguin (2024), a spin-off series set in the universe of Matt Reeves' film The Batman (2022)
Drew Goddard (born 1975) is an American screenwriter, director, and producer most closely associated with the horror genre. He began his career writing episodes for the television shows Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Alias, and Lost. After moving into screenwriting in film, he wrote Cloverfield (2008), World War Z (2013), and The Martian (2015), the last of these earning him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2011, he made his directorial debut with The Cabin in the Woods.

. As much as people just want to see Robert Pattinson's Batman join the universe, it looks like that won't be happening.
Who in the world wants this? Nobody wants a real life/grounded Batman joining some comical CGI fest DC universe.
Batman is my favorite super hero, I could easily see this being the first Batman movie I skip out on. The super hero movies being more of a comedy than anything else is played out.

Barf. Gunn was always the wrong choice for this. Thank goodness was the Reeves projects seem to be continuing.

No, absolutely not. I definitely do not want this. Please let it die.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christina Hodson has been hired to write The Brave and the Bold, which will be another Batman adventure. It's safe to say that fans aren't necessarily thrilled with this choice.
It's so easy. Scott Snyder is in his prime and is one of the best Batman writers ever. Surely, SURELY, they could pay him enough to help with this movie.

She is the one who wrote the screenplay for The Flash, which is reviled by much of the fan base.
...I thought this movie was fairly decent. Guess I'm crazy?

However, she's also the writer behind Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Bumblebee and Shut In, which holds a 5% on Rotten Tomatoes.
OK, these ones are bad signs for sure.

They both are awful. Reeves Patman was dreck. It managed to do the almost impossible - make Batman's uniform and gear look uncool. Pattinson made the Caped Crusader look miserable; as if he was undergoing a root canal or tax audit the entire time. Whatever iteration of The Riddler that was supposed to be didn't make it. That final act was ridiculous. How it got praised on here is beyond me.

It got praised everywhere, not just on here. Commercial and critic success. I loved it, but can see why some wouldn't like Pattinson's brooding.

Never should’ve been given free rein over the DCU. Superman was a shitty movie. It was well casted but the movie missed the mark completely. The guy injected himself into the marketing as if he was the lead and even renamed the Justice League so it could have his initials. It’s been a circus.

Batman as a character is miserable and dreck. You’ll get the playboy Bruce Wayne in the next one.
