Regarding a bridge and loop around Baton Rouge

Has anybody looked into replacing the old Hwy 190 bridge, improving access between I-10 and 190 on the west side of the river, and improving Airline Hwy north of I-12 so it’s a loop?

Maybe a study could tell us

I'm not sure which is more of a troll thread, this one or the "Should I move to White Castle one?".

nope, you're the first person who ever thought of this. And the first person to mention it here. Look into it and get back to us.

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for some studies of all sorts. Lets set aside say...10 million dollars and meet back here in 2036.

I use the old bridge all the time to avoid the shite show that is I-10. So for me it already is a loop.

Regarding the US 190 bridge over the Mississippi River.
The Union Pacific Railroad owns a majority of the bridge structure.
The railroad has the best attorneys that money can buy.
Railroads in the US are regulated by the Feds, therefore you really can't touch that bridge.
Bringing up US 190/US 61 ( Airline Hwy) to interstate standards would be quite expensive . That would entail no at grade intersections ( think overpasses) . Businesses that are located on that portion of Airline could no longer have access to Airline. Service roads would have to be built to serve them.
Drainage and utilities would have to be moved and rebuilt.
The above is just a start.

It seems like the simplest way to go.
The Huey P Long bridge in Elmwood was a nightmare, and they re-decked it and widened it without having to build a new bridge. Same might be possible with the old bridge at BR.
It’s relatively easy to improve 190 on the west side.
And maybe make Airline elevated from the bridge to I-12.

There was a firm that presented a public private partnership a few years back that would address this. However, council members from N Baton Rouge shot it down because it would require tolls.
quote:
The plan, which was not solicited by the state, was offered by AECOM, a Fortune 500 engineering firm with offices around the world, including Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The proposal, named the Baton Rouge Urban Renewal and Mobility Plan, or BUMP, would link interstates 10, 12 and 110 and U.S. 61 and U.S. 190 in a new path around often-congested Baton Rouge. It would have extended 23 miles from I-10 near Pecue Lane in East Baton Rouge Parish, follow a revamped Airline Highway and go across the U.S. 190 bridge to a point on I-10 about 4 miles west of the La. 415 interchange in West Baton Rouge Parish.

a loop would work much better than any new bridge would
get all the big truck traffic from coming through heart of baton rouge
the injury lawyers would fight that though
the fact that Lake Charles has a loop and Baton Rouge doesn't is asinine
how the Federal Govt never stepped in and fixed it is beyond ridiculous

and inasmuch as North US61 runs through the NBR hood, expect absolute opposition from the minority residents of the area to any such improvements to infrastructure.
See I49 in Lafayette between Willow and Pinhook for reference.

BR can’t even finish a diversion canal in 30+ years.

Just double deck Airline between 1-12 to the old bridge with the elevated being limited access (exits only) at Florida, Choctaw, Plank, 110 and 61.

Federal money is the only reason any of the big projects are moving forward right now. They aren’t just going to come in and foot the entire cost of a multibillion dollar loop. The state has to have skin in the game, and the state has more projects than money already.

And do it the other way into AP as well. Or if this is all too difficult, Airline Hwy just needs to be 3 lanes in both directions, from the Old Bridge and through Gonzales.
