for sex crimes charges involving children.

LINK

SIAP. It's 2 days old. I searched and didn't see anything.

LaVergne is the pastor at St. Edward Catholic Church in Richard where the “Little Cajun Saint” Charlene Richard is buried.

Eta: he already bailed out

Agreed. I wonder if the church will try to sweep this under the rug and just relocate him to another parish. Hopefully they have learned their lesson with all the lawsuits.

Brandon Scott Lavergne was convicted of the 2012 kidnapping and murder of Michaela "Mickey" Shunick. He is currently serving two life sentences in prison in Louisiana.

Dioceses weren’t relocating arrested priests.

unfortunately, most abusive priests were placed into ‘counseling’ then moved to another parish before law enforcement was ever involved

Ah ok I see now. In this case though, I wonder who put up the money for bail. I think it's likely the church did.

I’ll see if I can find out

According to The Guardian:
quote:

Records showed LaVergne made bail in the amount of $15,000 less than 90 minutes after he was jailed to secure his release from custody pending the outcome of the case.

The Guardian & the Advocate are reporting he was charged with ‘indecent behavior with a child’ which is a sex crime but it does not mean any sexual contact happened - it could also mean grooming behaviors.

It would be great if we could have clarification.

Diocesan priests are paid. I’d be very shocked if a Parish Administrator or Diocesan official used church funds for bail.

I'm wondering the same thing. Will they change his name and move him to a church in Canada or some chit like that?

Here is a Guy with the Same Name Who is a Priest in Acadiana

If this is the guy, he left a banking career to be a priest.
