Here’s your scope

Get the boys into tree saddles. They work well for the young folks.

Of course, there's always Bass Pro, although it's a little more expensive.
If you're buying from the 'net:
MIdway USA if you need it fast. Their prices are usually a little more expensive, but they often have free shipping that's usually worth $10-20. Lots of stuff, including gunsmithing and fishing supplies.
Natchez Shooters Supply is good for a lot of different hunting needs, but especially good for optics seconds and refurbished items.
Midsouth Shooters Supply Usually the lowest prices around.

Yes it is a deal (30mm tube), I'm not a fan of the firedot but I have several VX5HD's and they stack up well against any brand out there.

Oof... My last 2 scope purchases were $600 ish combined.

But back to the OP, I dont have a one stop shop. Midway is great when what you want is on sale. Their normal pricing is pretty high but shipping and customer service are pretty excellent. Free shipping on all orders over $100 I think. Creepy Larry appreciates your business.

I have 2 of them. Probably the best scope for hunting out there.

I second this scope. Super clear and firedot is awesome. I have a Swarovski Z6 on my 308 but one of these Leupold on my 7-08. I haven’t shot my 308 this w

How does the Z6 stack up against the VX5?

I’m considering a 50mm Z6 to replace a 44mm VX5 for improved light gsthering at dusk/dawn.

If you’re replacing the Leupold for early and late, you’re hunting outside of legal shooting hours on most days. If that’s the goal, Schmidt and Bender has always been the scope.

Swarovski glass is world class. That being said the VX5 is damn nice. I can shoot first or last light with both equally. I would get illuminated reticle on either. Just can’t beat the Leupold price right now. Half price of the Swarovski. I’m sitting in stand now and have the Leupold. If I have to make a low light shot I would shoot either with confidence

Exactly. I can see everything inside of 100 yds during legal shooting time with VX-3 40mm scopes, so I know the vx-5 is going to be even better. I have to set an alarm on my watch so I know when to stop, because I’m usually looking through the scope the whole time.

In open fields and food plots I have no issues. The VX5 has been great. Long shooting lanes 100+ yards in timber.. I can see to shoot, but struggling to get a good look at horns.

I probably need to just invest in better binos for this purpose.

You’re not really going to be able to count points at twilight. If you want to get good light transmission you’re not going to want to be zoomed in all the way. You can get an idea of rack size and have to make a judgement call based on that. My binos allow me to see better, but with only a couple minutes left of legal shooting time, my rifle is always in my hands.

Correct. You can get binoculars that are excellent for this by getting some designed for stargazing, like celestron 56mm, for far cheaper than alpha glass hunting binoculars. The trade-off is the stargazing binos are far larger and heavier, which doesn't matter if you aren't mountain climbing.

A scope is a sight. It needs to tell you where the bullet will land. Guys spending big money on rifle scopes based on perceived glass quality just makes me shake my head. You can get a scope that is cheaper, holds zero far better, and has plenty good enough glass, for less money. Binoculars are for observing, scopes are for shooting.
