Has any CFB team had more at stake than Indiana will in this game?

Indiana has an opportunity to not only win their first national title after a history of hapless play, but also go down as one of the greatest teams in CFB history. If they lose, they'll be by far the most memorable non-champion in CFB history. More than even 1998 Kansas State and 2007 West Virginia.

Equivalents in other leagues would be if the Lions or Browns went 17-0 and made the Super Bowl, or Nebraska winning the #1 overall seed in basketball and making the national title game, or the Hornets or Pelicans winning 75 games and hosting Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

It just feels like the outcome of this game will forever define how we see Indiana football.

I’d argue that West Virginia team had 1 season to win it and failed and Rich Rod knew he wouldn’t get that roster type again. Cignetti doesn’t have that problem. They will reload with similar guys in the portal and their system will mold them into a team capable of making runs.

However, another tour de force win will make Indiana a destination for blue chip guys too.

Do you feel like Snyder & Gundy also knew even in the moment that 1998 & 2011 respectively were "now or never" seasons for them in terms of winning a natty?

Or, you could flip it and say that it is not inconceivable that the team that beat A&M, Ohio St., and Ole Miss has a chance in the game.

Indiana is rightfully a big favorite, but it’s still a football game between two good teams. Anything can happen.

Miami are the 07 giants. They can definitely beat Indiana. The same Indiana that struggled to beat Iowa, Penn State, and Ohio State.

Are yall on drugs?

People are totally forgetting that game, where Indiana was on the precipice of defeat against a Penn State team that had lost 5 straight games...

Penn State outgained Indiana in yards, passing, rushing and time of possession...But PSU had 2 turnovers... Just like Oregon imploding and giving Indiana scoring drives of 0 yards, 3 yards and 19 yards.

People dismiss that Penn State game like they dismiss the VaTech game when labeling 2001 Miami as the GOAT. I wouldn't hold last nights score as a rock for your better slip...if Miami doesn't kill their drives like they did against Ole Miss and controls the clock...this is a game.

I'd say they have nothing to lose and nothing at stake .

If they lose it's just same old Indiana. They've already set the high mark in program history by a long shot. On paper it's a bunch of 3 stars who have far overachieved. They're already legends who will never have to buy another drink in Indiana.

I dunno.

Miami had a lot at stake in 1987 after blowing two national titles in 1985 and 1986.

FSU had a lot at stake in 1993 after being contenders for several years and getting a mulligan with Boston College’s upset of Notre Dame.

Nebraska had a lot at stake in 1994 after seven straight bowl losses.

Just to name a few

It will be 35-0 by halftime. We have never seen a team with a qb frequently throwing more TDs than incompletions.

IU covers any spread

Every great team with a tough schedule had some tough wins, aside from 1995 Nebraska. Thats just football.

You mean the team that beat Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Ole Miss? Yea, they do have a chance of winning the game.

I do think Indiana wins, but it is far from a guarantee.

1995 Nebraska played 12 games and faced one first round draft pick the entire season.

2018 LSU played 15 games and faced 13 first round draft picks.

2018 Clemson, 2019 LSU, 2020 Bama, and 2021 UGA would have had a lot of fun with 1995 Nebraska’s schedule. Pacific might not have waited until the end of the season to fold the program.
