What is it with Kentucky and Libertarians?

Massie is a dick, Paul turned into a dick, yet the state has a Dem governor
Beshear won his first term by 5K votes, while the Libertarian candidate garnered 28K votes
It’s almost like Libertarians give Dems wins because of their virtue signaling…

Massie is right on every issue where he breaks from republican orthodoxy and so is Paul. The only issue one can take with these libertarian leaning republicans in Congress is that they let the perfect be the enemy of the good. This is only a problem because so many republicans in Congress are corrupt and the GOP's majority is razer thin and exists practically in name only due to how many GOP'ers are staunchly or quietly anti-MAGA.
Kentucky has a libertarian streak because Appalachian people have a libertarian streak. They are extremely critical of government authority and resist it at every turn. With that said, they are also very pro workers rights, and there's a large northern city in Louisville containing a significant percentage of the electorate. The democrats used to be the workers rights/pro-union blue collar party in that area, so combined with their urban populations in Louisville (and the liberal white elites in Lexington) Bashear managed to get in power. If the GOP wants to win in Kentucky, they need to be the party of reduced government overreach and better working conditions for American laborers. Basically, they need to be MAGA, not McConnel.

And then there’s freaking Turtle.
What a schizophrenic freaking electorate.
Yelling this from my glass house, of course.

Kentucky is really a northern state. They have a large trash and ghetto population, so they're going to be liberal/nuts.

It's from their ancestors...mostly Scottish who invented the most brutal form of wrestling in Kentucky back in the 1700s. They went beyond eye-gouging and nose biting. Let's just call it orally castrating your opponent.

My ancestral Appalachian Irish roots are in full verification of your assessment. Don't let anyone tell you that mistrust in governmental authority cannot be inherently passed down among sequential generations.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. I wish more people thought of resisting authority as a virtue and not a weakness.

Not saying there’s a correlation >200 years down the road, but many of the people who settled Kentucky were inspired to go west by the Whiskey Rebellion.

I'm fans of both of them, but they're both soft as shite on immigration. Most of the Libertarian party is.
