The Future Is Here: AI-Generated Police Report Claims Officer Turned into Frog

In an embarrassing incident highlighting the pitfalls of relying on artificial intelligence in law enforcement, the police department in Heber City, Utah, was forced to explain why a police report generated by AI claimed a responding officer had transformed into a frog.
Futurism reports that the Heber City Police Department in Utah recently began testing an AI-powered software called Draft One, developed by police tech company Axon, to automatically generate police reports from body camera footage. The goal was to reduce the amount of paperwork for officers. However, the results have been far from satisfactory, with mistakes falling through the cracks in multiple cases.
In one particularly glaring instance, the AI software picked up on background chatter from the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog that was playing during the creation of the report. This led to the bizarre inclusion that the responding officer was himself transforming into a frog. “That’s when we learned the importance of correcting these AI-generated reports,” stated police sergeant Rick Keel.

AI - first putting 6 fingers on people, now confusing frogs for pigs

Was it a frog or a newt?

Was his name “Kermit” or “Jeremiah” by any chance?

I recently got put on an AI workforce for the school district I work in. I’m saving this one for the “how not to use AI” portion of our talks.

Oh, THAT is when it popped into your head that maybe you should take a glance at what the bullshite machine was spitting out? That's what put the idea into your head, Rick?

Will this be another thread where everyone shits on AI despite not really knowing what they are talking about?
1. We are still in early stages of AI. It has gotten a lot better in a short period of time, but just like using anything else the more you use it the better you will be with it.
2. It sounds like the sensory feature needs to be adjusted. There should be an option that allows you to adjust how sensitive it is to surrounding noise.
This article is just playing to all the people who wants to say "look, it looks like AI isn't as perfect at they say it is".

I think this is an example of AI’s (specific LLMs) biggest hurdle. Interpreting a world that it doesn’t physically exist in. I just don’t see how you bridge that gap of not having the context that someone would have by “actually being there”.
A less ridiculous example of this is Tesla FSD. It’s fantastic, but does not-so-great things sometimes mainly for this reason. So I’m at a red light on a really windy day, the lights are swaying back and forth. The car slowly starts to move into the intersection so I hit the brakes to take over, and as I’m glancing at the screen, I see that the stop lights look like flashing reds, and that’s how the car interpreted them.
Now, that’s a mistake no human is ever going to make, but it’s understandable for an AI using cameras to interpret light colors at an intersection. There are a lot of tiny problems like that FSD is trying to solve…and that’s just driving. There are probably billions of little micro-problems like this that AI is going to encounter while it tries to interact with an entire world it doesn’t live in.
TL;DR AI is amazing…and it’s not going to be doing everyone’s job anytime soon. And if it is doing a job, supervise the hell out of it.
