I need to have a F-150 towed tomorrow about 10 miles in south Baton Rouge. The two quotes I have so far are around $190. Unfortunately, I cannot tow it myself. Any recommendations for a less expensive tow or is that what I am looking at?

Do you have roadside assistance on insurance or phone plan?

We switched insurance companies lately and forgot to include roadside assistance in coverage- our fault

Just park it in an apartment lot near campus and Riverside will take care of it

A lot of credit cards have included roadside assistance. Worth a look

Do you know someone that has AAA?

AAA generally covers towing if you're a member riding as a passenger in someone else's car, as membership follows the person, not the vehicle, meaning you need your ID and card, and must be present with the car for service.

If you’re only going 10 miles, just get a tow strap and haul it during a non peak traffic time.

That’s about what you’re looking at. Most rates it’s about 120 to 130 to hook it up and between six and seven dollars a mile.

Join AAA but there's a 3 day wait for tows.

Membership @ $60.

Google membership special to see if you can get it cheaper.

Basic AAA membership will only tow 3-5 miles. Anything longer you have to come out
of pocket

Depends on which membership you buy.

Still cheaper than a tow truck.

Honestly that's not bad. My buddy owns a tow service (not in BR). He charged me $150 cash to take my truck about 15 miles.

Towing is expensive as frick these days. I had to get my stepdaughter’s car towed about 6-7 miles last year and was charged like $170. What pissed me off too is the price we agreed to beforehand was raised once the car was on the truck. It was only like $10-15 but I was furious. And I asked him if this was his common practice to changed the price once he has the car on the truck. He said no it was just that the place I needed it towed to was “father than he thought.” And I said you knew the addresses of both places up front.

It was total bullshite but I had no choice and decided the $15 wasn’t worth it so I just paid it understanding that I’d never call that motherfricker again.
