Someone explain how NIL is good for the game

Reading that Louisville is losing its top two RB’s to the portal. No problem I guess, we’ll go out and buy some athlete from Coastal Carolina or another mid. The fans will get behind said kid then he’ll upgrade to another power school.
How does this benefit the game? I get the era of three and four year players is over, but we have guys that have multiple transfers, mid tier qb’s making obscene amounts of cash.

Your running backs probably weren’t getting enough walking around money from Louisville. These guys deserve to order a pizza pie or two during the week without feeling like they are breaking the bank.

God forbid the 18 year old kids that are generating billions of dollars get a tiny slice of the pie.
God forbid a player be free to transfer to another school just like the entire coaching staff that is making millions off of these kids.
Yeah, NIL is a real travesty
But hey, coaches getting $50 million buyouts because they sucked is totally cool

Maybe you’re joking here, but isn’t papa John one of their biggest donors?

It's not good. Losing more true fans every year because of it. Can't even get fans to show up for bowl games anymore. Yeah I know TV ratings are still good but that is only because gambling has become so big.

The issue isn’t the NIL itself. I don’t have an issue with guys getting paid. They were pre-NIL.
It’s the sheer lack of regulation due to court rulings. It’d be a whole different ballgame if there were performance clauses and things in the contracts.

This is the answer.
Does NIL probably weaken the CFB product? Yes.
Is it the morally and economically correct thing to do? Also yes.

Maybe pay them more? Stop nickel and diming your RBs...they dont have long careers

Need transfer fees.

Then make it a pro league and remove it from colleges and universities altogether. But they won't do that, because the institutions are where the massive fan support comes from. They want to be professionals but they need the college ties for the built-in fan support. Utter hypocrisy.

What was your old handle on here

Definitely need buyouts and transfer fees to make it fair to schools that lose players.
I also hate the portal being open before the bowl games

I agree. Pay them, and as mentioned, they were getting paid anyways. However there needs to be some sort of set of regulations. It’s the wild, wild west right now

This makes exactly zero sense

I see you're not just a physical midget but a mental one as well.

This is a bankrupt argument considering the fact that the coaches are college graduates who are trying to advance in their careers while these collegiate athletes are (spiritually) amateurs who are going to school so they can get a headstart on a career.
The vast majority of these athletes will never play football again once they get their degree.

I don’t have a problem with kids being able to market themselves and make life changing money. I do have a problem with unlimited transfers making college football basically unrestricted free agency.
Fix the transfer problem and everything else will work itself out. Give them one free transfer and then you have to sit.

There’s a reason the schools get more revenue than the players. And you can’t play games without players. Both parties bring a certain amount of value, very easy concept

NIL is fine. Need to put limitations on transfer portal.
