That's horrible.
His dad is very ill and from my understanding was not expected to live too much longer even before this. Denny had said if he didn't win the championship this year his dad would not live to see him get another chance.

After watching two seasons of that NASCAR documentary on Netflix, I feel sorry for Denny and his dad. Denny is the one of the most cursed NASCAR drivers out there. He’s come so close time after time but can never win it all.

With 3rd degree burns from head to toe, even a completely healthy young person would likely not survive-------------and many would not want to given a choice.

From Bob Pockrass: Gaston County EMS confirms that Denny Hamlin's father, Dennis, died from his injuries at the hospital from the Sunday night fire. His mother, Mary Lou, was transferred to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston-Salem, where she is actively being treated.

This is incredibly sad.
Losing your dad sucks but he wanted to win the title because he knew his dad was dying. He went from winning to losing due to circumstance and now this takes his dad from him.
I’ve never been a Denny Hamlin fan but I’m hoping he can finally win it all to honor his dad.
