Rattler beginning the season

How did Rattler beat Shough out to start the season? Where would we be if Shough starred week1?

Shough just needed more time. This is the way all QBs should come into the league IMO. Reading defenses and more complex defensive concepts is the problem with new NFL QBs. That and the athletes are faster and more refined in their techniques.

Shough himself has said that starting out on the scout team helped him tremendously be where he is today. It's helped in his development. But maybe you know better sorry this was meant for the OP.

I think if you go back & watch Shough in the preseason... esp the game he started... you'll likely see massive development from then to now
He wasn't the same guy back in August
ETA: or just go back & look at the reps he got in the Seattle game
You'll see the same

What exactly do you expect Shough to say? You expect him to throw Moore and Rattler under the bus…..”I should have started earlier and we would probably be in the hunt for the division”.
I didn’t agree (AT ALL) with Rattler starting the season, due to the fact that the competition was close and it’s not like Rattler was an established veteran to sit behind. BUT, I do understand where KM was coming from or trying to accomplish with giving him some time to acclimate.
The problem is that the ABSOLUTELY should have been made after the Buffalo game. There was A LOT of comments from the local media (like they were pushing a narrative) about Rattler getting a chance to actually get his first career win against a lesser team.
The continual purporting of that line, makes me think they heard it from somewhere (no way to know for sure of course). We all know that Moore is a nice guy though.
The problem with this though, is that once Rattler won a game…..you couldn’t very well make the switch for the next week, and it bought him too much time.
There’s, of course no way to know what would have happened for sure…..and either way the future looks good.

Would be in playoffs, for sure.

Rattler had to go through growing pain, as well. New Coaches, new system, many new faces.

I would not change a thing from what happened .

The #1 priority this season was developing Shough, not winning. Tyler likely needed more time to really lean Moore's system, and KM needed to learn what the rest of the team was good at. Starting Rattler through the meat grinder that was our first 6-7 (sigh) games avoided the type of ugly losses that might have shaken Shough, or the team's confidence in Shough, or set the fans against him. This has all preceded according to Kellen Moore's plan.

I was at the rams game in LA and shough is a completely different player since then
He probably just wasn’t ready week1

Shough looked rough in training camp. He wasn't ready quite yet

we might not even make the playoffs next year. We still have a lot of holes to fill on the roster. There is a process to rebuilding and fans need to be patient. Even more so that it appears we have a QB. No need to rush our expectations and get ourselves disappointed. Look for the positive and be hopeful for the future.

Yeah there is a good chance with some film on Shough and non tomato can opponents it’ll look like he’s regressing at times next year. But he’s going to have dips in his growth as well. We need to get him some playmakers and consistent running game going forward.

Things have worked out exactly like they should have.
The Saints have a confident QB leading the team with a skill set that wins games.
Don’t overthink this. All the stars have aligned.
