Looking for late summer trip to Florida somewhere we can fly United. Which areas to look at and certain areas to stay away from? Looking for either a house or big condo on or very close to the beach. 6 adults and 3 young kids.

Great beaches. Sanibel Island. Ft. Myers Beach. Naples.

Tons of great spots there.

Agree with bluestem, you can't really miss if those are your criteria.

The deep south west corner of Florida is the only area we have not traveled to so we are also going to Sanibel or similar beach area in January to just chill out and explore( i'm looking at flights now!)

Any recommendations for food, must see venues, charters, things to do in that region is much appreciated.

I've taken my wife and young grandson (7 years old) to a couple of resorts just south of FT Myers at Coconut Point. The resorts are Hyatt properties. The Hyatt Vacation Club has condo type buildings with multiple bedroom units with full kitchens and a balcony. There are BBQ pits down in a nice cooking area and a golf course. The other is the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort and Spa. Both properties have multiple pools for kids and adults and both have extremely nice lazy rivers. Beach access is a free pontoon boat ride to the Hyatt leased private Island named Pelican Landing Beach Club that offers free beach chairs and has food, drinks and a gift shop on the Island. I've been to both each twice and have had a great time every time. There is also a brand new Four Seasons Resort right next door to these two properties that i'm sure is nice.

These properties are close enough to walk to each other and share amenities. The Regency has a huge slide area for the kids in a separate pool. The beach is a short ride away if you don't want to use the water shuttle service that is included with your stay daily.

On Sanibel currently. Moved here in 2020 got hit by Ian in 22. Love this place. However food on the island is not great. That said some of my favorites are Doc Fords, Cielo, American Legion (great burger dive bar scene), Over Easy Cafe, and Sanibel Grill. If want really good meal just take a trip to Naples for the day.

If you like a very quiet beach with hardly anyone around and lots of shells to hunt, this place is for you. Decent golf at The Dunes.

Have you tried The Blue Giraffe yet? Wife and I really liked it.

Thomas Edison & Henry Ford adjacent estates in FtM are a worthwhile visit. On Sanibel Is rent a canoe and paddle around the mangrove thickets on the Bay side.
If your interests include nature, especially seashells, the Natl. Shell Museum on Sanibel is also worth a visit. It's a grass-roots effort with a professional level shell collection. Luckily, rich shell collectors are generous people.

It’s not bad. They used to have one at entrance to my neighborhood but there was some sort of dispute between owners and a son in law or something and it kind of fell apart, pre Ian.
