Olave considered retirement last season

“It was a tough time last year,” Olave said, via Katherine Terrell of ESPN. “I was only 24 years old, contemplating retirement, especially with the head injuries, but I prayed about it. My fam, my close fam was around me. They stuck by my side and I just gave it another try, another chance. And it’s been a great year.”
Olave said the people he trusts most gave him good advice, and he ultimately decided to keep playing.
“My parents, my brothers and all my close people, I felt like I leaned on them a lot and they helped me get out the situation and I’m super grateful to be where I am today,” Olave said.
Next year will be the fifth and final season of Olave’s rookie contract. He says he’s now healthy, he’s happy in New Orleans, wants to keep playing there, and wants to remain a Saint.

at least we have a rookie qb to mentor him.

Having a QB that throws you a bunch of hospital balls will do that.

On pace for 100+ catches, 1200+ yards and at least 8 TDs.. thats a pretty damn good season. Just wish he was better at high-pointing some of those deep balls..
The other guy everyone wanted to replace (Juwan Johnson) is currently 4th in the NFL in yards and on pace for 80 and 800

this is why you can't invest a long term deal with him.
His issues are serious and career threatening. And, if you don't agree, just ask him.
He's a good player though. It's unfortunate.

Exactly. It sucks but with his history and line of work the chances of another concussion are highly likely. You can’t be on the hook for a long term deal.

Knocking on wood he makes it last 2 games with no incidents.
By September 2026 hell have gone 22 months without a concussion.
Thats likely long enough for him to have no more risk than thousands of high school, college, and pro WR's who are doing it for little or no money.
And CO12 will be making $20MM per year when we re-up him. He seems to be skilled at "bailing" on high risk plays and CKM seems to be keeping him safer with his 2025 route tree versus what we saw last season with Carr and his damn hospital balls.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH this isn't inspiring long term. Not that I'm criticizing his concerns, only the impact on our cap that a long-term deal and early retirement would do to our potential window.

literally zero % chance he reups less than 24 million a yr.

Somewhere between Jameson Williams (26.67 mil) & Garrett Wilson (32.5mil).
I think he lands a 4/120mil (45mil guaranteed) extension to his 5th year option.

Where do you get that info?
And, if that were the case, it would be really, really dumb to not shut him down.
The reality is that he is always going to be more susceptible and always going to be on the verge of calling it a career.

Prayed about getting 25M\yr on his next contract then he will stop giving a damn

Hes in his mid 20's his brain will heal.
Concussions in your 30s and 40s are what cause dementia.
Or a guy like Steve Gleason who had a TON of concussions playing old school safety in high school and college and then NFL special teams

He’s better than both Williams and Wilson, and I’ve been very critical of him.
$25mm/year like Davonta Smith is probably the perfect number, but the market is what it is and the saints are keeping him

If we reup him a year early we can get the discount tho. Small market teams like us need to do this anyway for our stars. This way we keep a good reputation unlike the Bengals and Cowboys who are always haggling. Dallas gets away with it bc theyre Dallas. Cincy does not.
