Don't overthink it.

The shock to me is there were 30 schools changing head coaches this year. 30! Seems like a lot.

Brian Kelly was given a lot of A+ grades when hired too.

freezing cold take:
brian kelly was the type of coach we needed after O. someone to bring stability. it just didn't work out past year 1.

I’m willing to give him the benefit that the landscape of college football just changed so drastically after year one. He tried to adapt and couldn’t. I don’t give him any grace for phoning it in.

It's actually kind of cool that Virginia Tech might actually be good at football again. It would definitely help the acc be more deserving of It's power 4 status.

Pat Fitzgerald at #30 is laughable. Sure he had a poor record the last 3 or 4 years at a school that doesn't give a rats arse about football. He'll attract a lot better players at MSU. They have some decent boosters that do care about football. I think that's a homerun for them.

I'm guessing that with the new era of NIL and megs salaries, Universities are not tolerating substandard coaching.
If my math is right, isn't that close to 25%?

He actually did a really good job his first season.

Lane has been successful in the SEC at a program with fewer resources.

Fitzgerald is going to be a disaster

I don’t think anyone would suggest OM has anywhere near the resources as LSU. However Lane has had all the resources he has needed to get whoever he has wanted. He finished his Ole Miss career with a .743 win percentage, 0 SEC Championship appearances, 0 Heismans. Meanwhile the ma he is replacing had a .708 win percentage, 1 SEC Championship appearances, 1 Heisman winner.
Lane could become the next Saban and go on a dominant run at LSU… however given his historical W/L record (or even his W/L record at Ole Miss) it’s just as likely he will be fired within 3 years. Especially after something like an embarrassing loss where you go 2/14 on 4th down and give up a 21+ lead to someone like us, Arkansas, or Kentucky…
I want Lane to succeed at LSU. LSU is my2nd favorite SEC program. It just isn’t a sure thing like most of you seem to think it is…

Lane A+
100% right
Fitzgerald should be hire that’s a B type hire
Also Chesney should be hire than Sumrall I mean ffs :
Sumrall Probably should be in the C range while Chesney is an A hire

The dirty little secret about Tulane this season is, the Green Wave weren't actually great at anything.

Will Hall, Tulane. Hall led West Georgia to the Division II semifinals in 2014 and 2015; he knows Tulane well (three years as an assistant); and he enjoyed brief success as Southern Miss' head coach, going 7-6 in 2022. But while Southern Miss has become an awfully hard job, his Golden Eagles collapsed to 4-20 in 2023 and 2024. I'd love to have seen him take on a longer coaching rehab stint before getting the keys to such a high-profile Group of 5 job.

There will be some introduction of the unknown when Baker moves on, but we all know what Lane’s offense can do once he gets it rolling. He had it going full speed by year 2 in Oxford and it has obviously worked in the SEC.
Baker has taken this defense from 90-sub 100 in pretty much every stat to 30-40 last year to 15-20 this year. With the talent returning and what we’ve added in recruiting and likely will in the portal, it’s easy to assume another step forward there. Plus, his job will be much easier than this year with the defense not having to completely carry the team.
My biggest fear with hiring Lane was Baker taking the Toolame gig and us ending up with Saban’s former clipboard holder as our DC. Thankfully, Ole Miss was dumb enough to take that option off the table.
