Looks awesome.

I'm unfamiliar with the Odyssey...how much of this will be similar to the plot of, say, Troy, or will it be a lot more expanded than that?

From the wikipedia:

"The Odyssey follows Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, on his long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War, chronicling his encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe, while attempting to reunite with his wife, Penelope."

Troy is based on The Iliad.

The Odyssey is the sequel to The Iliad - which is the story the movie Troy is based on. The Odyssey picks up exactly where Troy left off.

I highly suggest watching the 2 part series made for tv. Watch it and imagine what Christopher Nolan can do with this story. The story is truly an epic adventure.

It is much more of a fantasy story than a film like Troy

There are mythical beings etc that Odysseus must encounter on a long journey (an Odyssey if you will) to get home to his wife and son

This is what I was looking for. Thanks to all who responded.

I am pumped about this one.

The Odyssey is pretty fricking metal. Monsters, cannibalism, sex slaves, unimaginable torture, gods being dicks to people and one another, orgies, the underworld, and so on. The only thing I'm worried about is how they condense such an epic story into a few hours. I'll have to adjust my expectations going in knowing that not everything can be shown. The story has enough material to last several seasons of a series.

I do not recall the gods being actively involved in the film Troy.

There will presumably multiple gods involved here, directly

As long as it doesn't blast over any scenes with dialogue... ahem Tenet.

They weren't.

Troy was a grounded retelling of The Iliad though the epic poem saw the gods being heavily involved in the events of the story.

Also, the plot is perfect for Nolan. It will start 10 years into the journey with flashbacks

Looks like they modernized the dialogue also. I think that’s great. That was my only worry when people do these Greek classics. Troy did it well.

Tenet was amazing but should have been longer to explain the world more efficiently.

I'm usually all in on Nolan but that trailer doesn't inspire me. I hope they don't spend too much time in the Trojan war b/c the costume design there is silly bordering on absurd.
