Tyler Chase, who played Martin on Nickelodeon’s Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide, was recently spotted homeless in California.

In a viral street clip, he calmly explains he was on Nickelodeon and even names the show, while the person filming suddenly realizes they remember him.

It’s a jarring reminder of how fast fame fades and how little protection child actors often have once the cameras stop.

This isn’t gossip, it’s a reality check about Hollywood, money, and what happens after childhood stardom ends.

The protection for a child should come from the parents. Enough of these stories exist that a parent should want to do everything in their power to keep their child from ever being a part of Hollywood.

But to say this isn’t gossip is disingenuous. This is absolutely gossip with the intent to garner clicks.

Most of these stories involve parents pimping their kids to these shows and then spending the kid's money like it was never going to run out.

Probably a lot more hazardous when the cameras are still rolling, sadly, because of all the pedos.

It’s California. Half the people who live there are homeless. They also get paid and get other free shite.

A story as old as Hollywood and even goes back to the era long before Hollywood became the center for film and TV shows.

Once the cuteness wears off, many child actors are left out in the cold and don't transition to adult roles.

Many of the cast of "The Little Rascals" that first appeared in 1922 had it rough after they outgrew their roles. Over the course of filming the "Our Gang and Little Rascals" shorts, the studio went through 41 different actors as they aged out. Many of them fell on hard times between alcohol, drugs, crime and homelessness.

The list is pretty short for child actors who transition into adult roles and continue their acting careers beyond their teens.

When something like this comes up, I always think back to Gary Coleman. That dude was everywhere with Diff'rent Strokes and was making a frickton of money, but even though it was supposed to have been locked in a trust his parents somehow managed to piss away most of it by the time he was old enough to access the trust.

Estimates are his net worth when he died was around $75k.

The simple fact of the matter is that, at least back then, there were no protections for child actors. I don't have problem with kids being in TV, movies, etc... but only if they're protected.

I remember how the kids doing the Harry Potter movies were still going to school and a lot of steps were taken to ensure they still had (as much as possible) regular kid lives. We may or may not agree with their politics, but that none of the big names ever went down alcohol or drug spirals is a pretty good testament that they needed that protection.

I'd need to do some catching up to see if kids are better protected these days; if not, it seems an easy fix. Who would vote no to that? (Though I'm sure someone will jump in and scream *insert political party here*)

I really do wonder what happens to child actors in ol' Tinseltown.
