on a two pt conversion only the player who fumbled the ball can advance the fumble. Otherwise it goes back to the spot it was fumbled. This is absolutely stunning

This is a DIRECT misuse of rules that are very clearly written in the rule book. This is beyond stunning news

It’s a backwards pass. I don’t believe you use the normal fumble rules in this situation. It’s just considered a live ball.

Yes frick the rams but I’m after the refs here. Sam darnold is the fumbler. He would have had to recover it

Think it’s also crazy that the Seahawks would have never challenged this themselves.
But frick the rams, still not anywhere close to even with the refs

I’m watching the refs blow the play dead. I don’t know how they ruled it a recovery after that when the rams clearly quit playing.
Heck everyone quit and the guy just picked up the ball for the ref

At least in college, even if a play is blown dead and then a fumble is ruled via replay, they typically reward the ball to the team who made a clear recovery after the fumble. I'm not sure if/how this may apply here.

As long as there is a clear recovery, the play continues after the whistle.
It's the Ed Hochuli rule from when Hochuli screwed the Chargers when he blew the whistle after a clear fumble by Cutler.
Here's the video of that. The NFL doesn't allow Youtube embeds for some reason. At 2:22 Hochuli admits that he fricked up. The rule changed after that.

After that pass interference shite in the Dome frick the Rams

It makes sense to have an exception for a backwards pass, to me.
The purpose of the rule is to prevent a purposeful fumble forward on a play you have to meet a certain yardage. If you are not going to make it, fumble it forward to take the chance to get it versus zero chance.
A backwards pass play wouldn't typically qualify to prevent that.
Crazy arse play though.

It was a backwards pass. Not a fumble
