Want to get my 11yo a watch that allows call/text/tracking. Not looking for that that only works with a cell phone.
We use Xfinity (Verizon network, I believe) for cell phones. They have several options, but not real sure what other good options might be out there. Not against setting up a plan outside Xfinity or alike.
Other than call/text/tracking capabilities, my only real ask is that it have good battery life.
Both my wife and oldest son have apple watches. Lower end versions, I'm sure. Still expensive with absolutely terrible battery life.
Thanks

I just ordered my 9 year old the Gabb watch for Christmas. A buddy of mine's daughter has one and you control contacts of who she can call/message, while also tracking her. Not sure about the battery life.

^^^ This. However for an 11 year old, I might suggest the full gabb phone.

My Apple Watch Series 8 is just fine for at least 24 hours.

My 11 year old has an Apple Watch with cellular. Since he doesn't have an iPhone (and isn't getting one anytime soon), I paired it with my Apple Watch App. He can call, text, and we can track him using "Find My" on our phones. I control who his contacts are and who he can talk/text with. It only costs an additional $10 per month on our cellular contract.

That what we ended up with. Too many options for me. And not being the patient type, that just seemed like the easy out.

I got my 10yo the Amazfit Bip 6 this year to see how he does with it. He doesn't have an iPhone yet so I wanted to try something that he could pair with his iPad. It's supposed to have a 14 day battery.

When our kids were that age we tried the "kids" version of smart watches, and they were all crap. We wound up just getting each of them a base model Apple Watch, and it works great. We (parents) have iPhones, and when they got older their watch seamlessly integrated with their phone.
The "kids" watches we found to be pretty shitty and wonky. If you are already in the Apple ecosystem, just get them an Apple Watch.

Got my 11yo a cheap smartwatch from Amazon that he can pair with his Bark phone. Going to see how he does with taking care of it and will maybe upgrade him to something nicer later on
