Thoughts on 2014/2019 Silverado/ sierra transmission issues?

If the dealership replaced the transmission, Will this transmission be better or different design than the failed one?
Should I stay away from them altogether?
I’m looking at 100,000 mile trucks for around $20-$25k

If its the 8 speed I would stay away. More than likely they fixed it without upgraded cooling/torque converters.

Mine is a 2014 Chevy 4x4 rebuilt the transmission, six speed. Weak point is the sun shell, pretty sure this is a standard upgrade by any rebuild shop.
Read a thread here a good while back, Ole Boy mentioned having several Chevy trucks over his lifetime. He also said the 2014 was the most expensive to keep on the road. I believe he mentioned staying away from the 2014. I raised my hand while reading it.

No. They put the same shitty torque converter in them.

Just plan on rebuilding it every 100k. Go ahead and price that in.

The "repair" on my dads 2018 was a massive flush and refill with a different fluid. He doesn't drive that much so it may last him awhile.

Have it tuned and delete the displacement on demand. That's what causes premature failure by constantly locking and unlocking the converter. Source, Former GMC service manager and his top tech who does transmissions on the side.

Does everyone feel that the 6 speed is ok? Would you be ok with buying a 2014-2019 with a 6 speed but staying away from 8 speed?

I'll ask him, but I think his was a 6 speed and died from it. Thats when his tech told him to delete it. No problems after he did that.

The 14 that I bought had 30k miles lasted 2 weeks after I got it. Torque converter failed. Immediately traded it in for a 12. This one had100k and I’m about to hit 300 only issue I’ve had is a busted radiator.
I’d stay far away from a 14

6 speed or 8 speed?

My 2021 GMC Sierra's 8 speed transmission went out at 71,000 miles. Luckily I had bought an extended warranty for the first time in my life.

talked to him, his truck was a 19 with a 6 speed that died. Been fine since deleting it as his son in law has it now.

I’ll chop my foot off before I ever depend on a GM truck again.
2018 Silverado with 188,000 miles has had $11,000 spent on it the last year, including transmission, whole steering rack, and entire front end.
