The Trump administration is fighting to keep American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters from interpreting White House press briefings in real time after the The National Association for the Deaf (NAD) sued the President’s team in May.
Attorneys for the Department of Justice have argued that allowing signing “would severely intrude on the President’s prerogative to control the image he presents to the public.”

I guess MAGA isn’t deaf.

Aren’t they close captioned anyway?
Anyway, this sounds like a BS story

They are close captioned. The argument is that there can be inaccuracies and delays in closed captioning. I think we’ve all seen those.
It’s not a BS story.
The last Trump administration was successfully sued when they tried to bar ASL interpreters.

Paywall. I doubt it is as described by the “reporter”. Would love to be able to read the actual lawsuit.

Same could be said of ASL.

How would you know?
Anyway, what do you think the problem would be with having a live real-time interpreter?

Could you imagine trying to keep up with his rambling off topic weave that he does. No thanks. How do you sign he's sleeping?

We have to pay a sign language chick? What would be the problem without having one?

I actually know a bit.
Anywho- most of us have likely seen stories of highly unqualified translators used in government messaging.
Anyway- be it CC or ASL or fuggin mandarin, there is the possibility of there being delays and inaccuracies.

Biden isn’t president anymore, bud.

No one has ever liked them. Even deaf friends of mine who read lips and can follow closed caption make fun of the ASL folk.
It's not something EVERYONE needs to be a part of. It just isn't.

Why not both?
I’ve never seen a politician, regardless of political affiliation try to have an ASL interpreter barred, especially because it would “hurt his image“.

Easy it is a total waste of tax payer dollars when CC is already done. But hey let’s just waste more money since we are giving illegals billions already right?

Why not have two government funded sources of inaccurate information?

ASL at press conferences is virtue signaling and the signers are seeking attention.
