Added a lil Woodford Reserve, and I must say it was mighty good.

You should make your own. It's mindblowingly good.

Exactly. Homemade egg nog is a completely different animal than that thick sludge you can buy in a carton.

Do you have a go to recipe that you’d be willing to share?

Alton Brown's is foolproof. It's SO good.

Search on this forum for an Egg Nog batch thread. I haven't done it yet, but a number of posters do it and share recipes and pics of their egg nog.
ETA: Found it: EGG NOG THREAD

That's the one I use. Uncooked version.
Ingredients
4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
3 ounces bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 egg whites*
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved.
Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Whisk the egg whites into the mixture.
Chill and serve.

Does it have to be aged? His recipe says to hold it a minimum of 14 days but you can also drink it immediately.
Have you tried it without aging?

You can drink it immediately; it'll just be extra boozy

Alton has three recipes iirc, one cooked (don’t), one using egg yolks and whipped egg whites (for this year use this one. It is great and not overly boozy). Next year use the aged recipe. I make mine on New Year’s Day for next year (you’ll never go back)
