93 years young today for the LSU Basketball great
He played 11 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA), all with the Milwaukee/St. Louis Hawks (1954–1965). In 1956, he became the first recipient of the NBA's Most Valuable Player Award and he won the award again in 1959. He also won the NBA All-Star Game MVP award four times. As of the end of 2024-2025 regular season, Pettit is still the only regular season MVP in the history of the Hawks. One of the classiest persons I’ve known.

I had the pleasure of seeing him play in high school and college. Never saw him in person as a pro.

I agree 1000% ... very genuine and respectable person. Friends with the family and went to HS with all of his 3 children. Spent countless times spending the night at their house growing up. He never once brought up his playing career and accolades, it was always about his children and late wife

agreed, not mentioned enough as one of LSU's/NBA's all time greats

My favorite NBA player when he was playing for St. Louis Hawks. I remember listening to the radio broadcast as a young child and occasionally catching a game on the TV. He is a man of high character and a great representative of LSU basketball.

Went to school with his granddaughter. He signed a basketball for me in 8th grade. Still have it in the sports case in my office.
He had such a quiet life after basketball. People forget how good he was.

One of the nicest guys anyone can meet
Little known fact
He is the first player to 20,000 pts. A record that’ll never be broken

My friend's late father was very proud of the fact that he played on the Baton Rouge High basketball team with Bob Pettit. Too bad the only reference to Bob's name to many young people is a street in a crime-ridden ghetto (that used to have nice student housing).

A very strong argument could be made for him being the most accomplished athlete in LSU history.
