I imagine most here will support this without question. The rest of us will be called leftists.

quote:

U.S. Sens. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala. and Katie Britt, R- Ala., have both joined the reintroduction of the federal “Back the Blue” Act, which would increase penalties for those who target law enforcement officers, according to a news release from Tuberville’s office.

Tuberville cosponsored this legislation in the 118th Congress in 2023. “Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day when they go into the field to protect us,” Tuberville said in the release.

quote:

Create a new federal crime for killing, attempting to kill, or conspiring to kill a federal judge, federal law enforcement officer, or federally funded public safety officer. The offender would be subject to the death penalty and a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 years if death results; the offender would otherwise face a minimum sentence of 10 years.

Do we have a federal murder statute?

Yes, we do.

Good, then charge the perpetrator with that. We don't need more laws. We need many, many less laws.

Who on earth would have a problem with this?

You'll have a fraud from Lake Charles wanting to give you a High-Five over this. He hates law enforcement.

Do you support hate crime laws?

Should these government employees get more legal protection than your children?

As long as there are increased penalties for LEO who knowingly abuse the power granted to them. They should have a higher bar, not exceptions.

Oddly, Tuberville isn’t talking about that.

Quit with the special carve outs... laws should apply evenly and equally to all.... is your life less valuable than anyone else's?

I'm really surprised the constitutionality of these hate crime laws hasn't been challenged.
