Please share a couple sources to follow for used ATV's.

I'm not in a hurry but plan to sale my bass boat soon and purchase a reliable used ATV. Price range in the 3K-6K range.

Be careful. Two things I'd never buy used from unknown source. ATV / SXS or boat.

You could get a brand new Honda rancher at the top of your price range.

I would never touch an ATV or SXS that has been snorkled or has a big lift kit. Either one of those would be a deal breaker for me.

If the unit came with 26" tires and it now has say 28's I would look at it but still be cautious.

I bought two off FB market place in the last 6-7 years. Both Honda Rubicons and nice machines - one a 2006 TRX500FA and the other a 2017 Deluxe EPS. Both well cared and I have done the same. You just have to research options and take your time, which it sounds like you have on your side.

Just bought a used one last month, about the only place to buy them now a days is on Marketplace. You just have to tread though a little of everything, rag-d out ones, questionable ownership ones, over priced ones, slow response folks, etc. A few dealers get trade ins and advertise them on their websites, most that do also put the ads on MP so you'll see them as well, they are usually in the over priced category because they know some guys will pay the premium not to deal with the other issues I pointed out which can be a real pita.

When I was looking several years ago, I saw a few used ones. I remember the one with the snorkel sold by a guy with 2 teenage kids saying "This one has never been under water", haha...I decided on a new rancher 4x4 (under $5K in 2017) and it has been great. They last a long time if you treat them right.

We never had a "new" ATV growing up without an issue.

I have buddies that have bought new but swear used is the way to go now.

now with a BOAT, I 100% agree. I have a boat, there's a reason B.O.A.T. = Break Out Another Thousand.

I’ve had good luck and bad luck with buying used. I did my due diligence and like others said, steered clear of any with a ton of non factory improvements (I.e lifts, snorkel, huge tires etc) I got it used and it was fairly clean. 7 months in found out it’s burning oil and probably gonna have to replace engine.

Nothing I could have done when I purchased this to know. Sucks, but part of it.

“Been paw pawed” was a comment I saw on marketplace. lol.
I found a gently used Pioneer 500 on marketplace and it ended up being an old friend.

You could even not treat them right

I only know because my father-in-law had a 2016 that his son's tore up, lost the gas cap to, and left it to sit in the rain for over a year. This is what it looked like when he told me if I wanted to fix it up I could keep it. After a few hours of work and a little bit of money it's trucking along nicely.

There is a guy in Bastrop texas that sells mint older atvs. He always seems to have a kawasaki bayou for sale. In fact right now thats all he got.
Kolbie Durham is his name sells off Facebook marketplace. I talked to him once about a three wheeler he had. Seemed genuine to me.

JDPower

This where Progressive got the value of mine when it was stolen. And it seemed to be very generous.
