Lane Kiffin’s Best Ole Miss Recruiting Class

2023 Class (his peak in Oxford)

Class Rank: #22

Total Signees: 25

5-Stars: 0

4-Stars: 8

Blue chip %: 32%

Top 100 Recruits: 0

Average Player Rating: ~89.0

Portal reliance: Extremely high (required to fill holes every year)

This was widely considered the best recruiting haul he ever managed at Ole Miss and it still wasn’t Top 20.

2025 LSU Class (after only 5 days on the job)

Current Class Rank: #13

Total Signees: 14

5-Stars: Already more than his entire Ole Miss tenure

4-Stars: 10+

Bluechip %: 70%+ (national title contender level)

Top 100 Recruits: Multiple

Average Player Rating: ~92+

Portal reliance: Strategic, not survival-mode

And this class is only HALFWAY filled.

How can this be? I have it on good authority (all of the media and OM homers) that LSU and OM are the same. There must be a mistake. OM is going to need to speak to a manager about this.

I'm gonna be that guy. Don't get me wrong Kiffin will do just fine and it will be even better next year, but let's not act like this is all his doing this year.

Sure he closed and got them to sign but the majority were already teed up and served on a platter thanks to all the hard work that was done by the coaches/recruiters prior to him getting here.

I think this is a forest for the trees comment.

The fact that he didn’t really recruit this class is the point. Essentially how hard he recruiting at OM vs how little he could recruit at LSU and the outcome is an indication that LSU is a force multiplier.

Time X effort X OM= outcome v
Time X effort X LSU= outcome

Whole season X max effort X OM=23

1 week X Divide attention X LSU = 13

LSU is a force multiplier. So what will it be when it’s

Whole season X max effort X LSU ?

I think that's the point though. This class is coming in with him on the job for less than a week following a coach who got canned mid-season. It's speaking to the potential once his staff gets established.

For any OM or outside fan that asks why LK would leave for LSU when his team is going to make the playoffs, you just show them Lane’s 5 star recruit total in a week compared to his 6 years at LSU.

You add that to the NIL and he knows he has a great opportunity to win a title compared to just making the playoffs.

To be fair, he was only maintaining this class. But yes. It's a big hell yea! This is the type of talent he can get.

Is it really fair to call this "his" class though?

That's the point. A season where the coach gets fired mid season and the new coach has less than a week to recruit and just the fact that it's LSU garnered a better class than a years effort in Oxford. No Lane didn't recruit all of these kids, and he still ended up with a better class in a worst case scenario.
