Forbes just came out with their list of the top ten college sports towns. LSU doesn't make the list but, UK, Arkansas, and Missouri do?
WTF?

Loyalty might explain it, though maybe it’s just fans’ motivation to visit Ann Arbor before and after the football game. Who can blame them? The small city of 114,000 boasts top-flight restaurants and bars, a symphony and ballet, as well as museums and concert halls hosting national-level entertainment.

With criteria like this, do you really want to be on this list?

Women's basketball brings us down.

Are you saying Fayetteville should not have been on the list?
If so, then you've obviously never been there.

This is a stupid F'n article. Of all the SEC schools they go with UK?
If they included some solid sports schools then I would be a little more fired up; however they had Stanford at #2. Forbes should not attempt to write articles related to sports; you don't see Vogue trying to write articles on derivative trading...but they could since I have never read the magazine. That's all i have to say about that. And to Forbes you better
to LSU next time you try to write such an article.

You're right, it would be a total shame if Baton Rouge had some culture other than what we have already.
I think the fact that they looked at public schools and crime rates brought Baton Rouge down.

if athens, gainesville, or BR isn't on there then the writer is an idiot

The list is a joke. Most college kids wouldn't want to go to half those places. Including myself.
In just about every SEC college town list I've seen Fayetteville and Lexington aren't even in the Top half of the SEC.

It's Forbes people. Housing markets and median incomes mean more than tradition, crowd noise and championships.

Then why aren't larger cities like Austin or Columbus on the list? The fact that Lexington, KY is ranked in the top 5 totally invalidates it.

You have to look at how they did those rankings to understand the top 10. It's not really about the sports per se. It's all about cost of a 3-4 bedroom house and medium household income.
Then they throw crime in there.
It's not really taking into account sports (other than that they limited their search to the top 50 in the director's cup)
So that's why LSU is screwed.......and Athens and Gainesville and so on.

maybe they mean towns where the college represents the bulk of the city.

I don't think so. Lexington is the same size as Baton Rouge, and Madison, WI is the state capital.

Forbes has a tendency to try a little too hard to be contrarian and quirky. Look at their list of the top colleges. Forbes Top colleges and Universities in the US
Notwithstanding that I have one daughter going to one of their top 10 and another going to one of the top 15, it's not a list that should be taken all that seriously.

i live in (and love) the SF bay area...but stanford would be a god awful place to go to college in terms of the town alone. granted the education is amazing, but just in terms fo town, it's like goin to school in a rich cookie-cutter suburban neighborhood

Did you read their reasoning ? No ryhme or reason to it but they discuss economic factors more than athletic facilities or teams. Austin is one of my favorite towns FWIW.
