On February 19, 2027, we’ll celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Wars with a re-release of the 1977 original back for a limited time, in theaters everywhere.

Part of Lucasfilm’s yearlong 50th anniversary celebration, a newly restored version of the classic Star Wars (1977) theatrical release — later renamed Star Wars: A New Hope — will play in theaters for a limited time.

How many times can they restore the same film?

Supposedly they “lost” that original cut.

They need to at least get rid of him saying Maclunkey

I’m hoping they also have the original Human Jabba.

Really? I own the DVD of the original cut he begrudgingly released after fan outcry for it. Did they 'lose' it after that?

It’s a shite non anamorphic laser disc port.
Horrible quality.

Nope. The DVD fixed some of the timing and made it appear that they shot at the same time. In 1977 Greedo never got a shot off. That hasn’t been rereleased.

Edit: Here are the 5 official releases and the differences.

Yeah, I said DVD, not BluRay.

It's not that bad, and anything is worth avoiding George's 'improvements.'

I've watched the one I have and Greedo doesn't shoot at all.

.They only officially released the original trilogy in 1997, 2004, 2006* 2011, 2015, 2019.

In 2006 they did release the limited editions that included the unaltered footage, but it was only on bonus disks. The main disks are the 2004 release. But those bonus disks were just ripped straight from the 1993 laser disk release.

The original masters were cut and conformed in 1997 which is why Lucas said they were “lost.” Basically he can’t get them back to how they were.

There is however a 1977 unaltered print that is owned by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and is in 70mm.
It’s not been chopped and confirmed and could be used for a remaster.

No shite. That's what I bought and I commented on the low def quality. From Wookiepiedia:
quote:

The Star Wars trilogy comes out for a limited time as individual movie DVDs on September 12th—complete with the unaltered original films as bonus material—and will be available for pre-order starting this week. This is a chance for longtime fans to re-experience the movies as they originally played during their first theatrical releases, and an opportunity for new fans to see a bit of movie history.

Each movie comes as a two-disc set—one disc is the 2004 remastered version of the film, while the second disc is a version that captures its original theatrical presentation.
Again, anything is worth Greedo not shooting

Here's a copy if you want to own it.

I watched these movies at home on Betamax for years, then no-def cable TV. I don't need for my films to all be in perfect high def. and George's goofy, corny alterations are worse than watching it through a keyhole.
