CDC panel drops hepatitis B shot recommendation for infants

An advisory panel on vaccines handpicked by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Friday voted to drop the decades-old federal recommendation that all infants receive the hepatitis B vaccine at birth.
Why it matters: The move enshrines a top agenda item of vaccine critics as government policy and marks the biggest change to the childhood vaccination schedule since Kennedy was sworn in.
The idea of changing the recommendation has drawn intense criticism from the medical establishment and public health leaders, who warn that it will lead to more preventable cases of hepatitis B, which can cause liver failure, cancer and even death.
Instead, it recommended that mothers who test negative for hepatitis could get their infants vaccinated after at least two months of age after consulting with doctors. Mothers testing positive would continue to be recommended to have their infants vaccinated.
Panel members who backed the change argued that the vaccine is not necessary for children born to mothers who test negative.
"I suggest to parents to be very, very suspicious when people tell them that something is safe, especially a vaccine," said Retsef Levi, a professor of operations management at MIT.

At this point, if you're not suspicious of everything, you're just not paying attention.

I’m not sure what waiting two months accomplishes.
It will also be interesting to see if insurance covers it for people who wish to give it to their newborn.
Once your kid goes to daycare or school, you probably want them vaccinated. Sex isn’t the only way it spreads.

And this shot has been around a long time with truly proven safety.
Agree. Risks are extremely low, however, benefits are 0 if mom doesnt have hep b

They do IV drugs at your kid’s daycare?
Only way it spreads is blood, semen or vag juice

One SERIOUS issue we have in this country is that the Left will completely ignore anything that doesn't align with their narrative...and a lot of times that narrative is driven straight by big pharma and big agriculture.
Take the Tylenol announcement a few months back as an example. It was announced that there's a chance there's a correlation between acetaminophen and autism. Immediately we were flooded with videos of pregnant women taking boatloads of Tylenol just to "stick it to Trump" since they "TrUst sCience". No one asks any questions at all, not even a thought of "oh shite, I'm not sure if this is true or not but if it is we should probably all look into it". Nope, it's immediately dismissed by everyone on the Left as wrong and the media shoves denial down your throat simply for WHO shares the message. This is as far from actually trusting science as you can fricking get.

The decision will surely lead to a non-zero increase in Hepatitis B transmission. Likely minimal, except to the people it happens to.
But that’s public health policy.
The question is: Is it offset by a decrease in some measurable vaccine harm that is more common than transmission at this fringe?
I think it probably won’t accomplish much of anything.
A lot of the recommendations are geared toward convenience and accounting for the lowest common denominator, irresponsible patient.

Why is a professor of operations management on a vaccine advisory panel?

Uh, our children's daycare must be MUCH different because at ours the kids certainly aren't fricking hookers or using IV drugs.
I'd recommend re-evaluating your choices if this is a concern for your kid.

Just wrap them in bubble wrap to keep other kids away. Kids are notoriously focused on good hygiene.

Wouldn't a test of mom rule out the need then instead of another vaccine for an infant?

Oh Sweetheart, Hep B isn't transmitted due to poor hygiene...try to educate yourself a bit.

ETA: I'm not trying to do a "gotcha," I'm genuinely asking if it could spread through the blood via a scraped knee.

So can't be transmitted via saliva or bodily fluids. Good to know.

You mean when Trump tweeted don’t use Tylenol for any reason and then one month later said it’s fine? And then the parent company of Tylenol just happened to get acquired with a depressed stock price?

Then the people more at risk for STDs and needle sharing, IE poor people, are less likely to come in for it. That's the logic behind early vaccines
