44 degrees. Gillsburg, MS. After the rain from a day ago, I’m going to give it a go in a set we haven’t hunted in a couple years. Mathews Lift X 29.5” with the Trypans. Good luck.

Oak flat where I killed my biggest buck to date several years ago.
Reached the ohh shite line on my lacrosses three times on my walk in.
Might be my last hunt for a couple of weeks right as chasing starts

Hunted an 80 acre tract just south of you in Easleyville back in the 80’s. Miss that place, loaded with wild persimmons and crabapples. Early October evenings were magical there.

Lincoln Parish 34° and calm
.270 in a box stand with a heater cranking
Had 2 little ones come out right after I climbed up. Someone must’ve killed their momma and it’s a good chance it was me earlier in the season.
Last still hunt of the year, the real fun starts tomorrow.

My first deer rifle I bought off a guy on Louisiana Sportsman. I always joked i could use it for primitive arms season because it was a single shot rifle.

308?
I read they don’t jam like the 30-06 because of the shorter brass.

I’ve owned a 1965 742 in 30/06 and a 1972 742 in 243. They’d both jam if I tried to shoot anything but plastic tipped bullets, guessing that’s why I picked them up cheap? I’ve passed em down to a younger crowd with a note, “Use ballistic tip or SST ammo only”. Hunted with both on a few sits but never killed with either, they definitely were a boat anchor to pack around, nothing I’d want to haul up a mountain.

I shot a doe right before dark a few years back, the next three to four times I hunted that stand a yearling would come walking around looking lost.

Felt like shite about it

Shot at a pair of mallards the other day, killed the drake, and the hen circled for 15 minutes looking for her mate, finally flew on.

granted I’ve never had the need for emptying the mag but it’s not bad about hanging up. It did blow a hole in my dad’s truck floorboard back in the 80’s though. There was a divot in the asphalt for years until they recapped the road.

If the P320 had a grandpa.

Howd you negl discharge the rifle into the floorboard? At least it wasnt on the gun rack behind your head, cause I know in the 80’s you had that rifle hanging in the back glass like an OG baw

Boy I graduated HS with was running deer dogs one day. He was standing on top of the dog box with his jam master barrel resting on his toe. He picked it up by the trigger. Darn safety was off and so was his big toe.

He went to shoot it I think, didn’t go off so put it back in the truck and it went off. he was very strict on me regarding gun safety
