Look I get plenty of people want to keep their international citizenship.

quote:

On December 1, 2025, Senator Bernie Moreno (R-OH) introduced the Exclusive Citizenship Act of 2025. The bill would prohibit any person from simultaneously holding U.S. citizenship and citizenship of another country. The major provisions include:

But thats what drives anchor babies.
quote:

The requirement that existing dual citizens would have one year to renounce all foreign citizenships or relinquish U.S. citizenship.
The failure to renounce foreign citizenship within the one-year period would be treated as a voluntary relinquishment of U.S. citizenship under Section 349(a) of the Immigration and 26 Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1481(a).
The voluntary acquisition of a foreign citizenship after enactment would trigger immediate loss of U.S. citizenship.

And none of that overseas citizenship of India BS.

This solves so many problems.

There would be pushback to this. Many Americans hold dual citizenship, including Olympic athletes like Mondo Duplantis.

I agree, but it would drastically decrease the draw for illegal immigration.

This needs to happen.

Either you are all in as an American, or you are out.

I'm not sure why it was ever allowed to start with.

I 100% support this bill.

Dual citizenship is okay, you just can’t serve in government in any capacity, local, state or federal. That would be the law.

Why?

Why would someone you dont trust to be in government be a citizen.

Would create a pointless second class citizenship that would still try to vote themselves back into government.

I hold dual citizenship. I was born in Canada to American parents. There's no legitimate reason to strip it from me. I'm also eligible for German citizenship but haven't gathered all the paperwork yet to claim it.

Why do you feel the need to keep it?

At the very least, dual citizens should not be eligible to serve in government.

I’m more concerned if someone’s first language isn’t English.

It was a circumstance of my birth, it requires no oath of loyalty. It's a birthright.

There's one reason why this will never happen. It also happens to be the biggest blind spot in American politics.
