Good wrap up with some good call backs, that said they still left the door open for another one.

I finally got around to watching it a month ago. It took me two days to get through it and I couldn’t tell you how it ended or the story in general if my kids lives depended on it.

I liked the MI series, have seen them all, thought they got better as the series went on. But the finale is Tom Cruise stunt porn. It's cool, sure, but it's not a great movie and the series deserved a better ending.

Yeah the villain wasn’t that great. PSH was the best villain of the series.

It often took too long between action or important things including allowing everybody in the room or scene to talk when it used to be done much quicker with more energy and often with the theme song starting up. It was like they wanted all the cast to be involved too much. The seals didn’t need all 3 talking to explain the suit. I am sure they wanted the butch girl/ trans looking seal to be seen and heard, and they should have just kept it at that and have Ethan know most of it already to be done quicker. In the past it would be Ethan explaining the suit to someone, but all of a sudden he was clueless and needed all 3 to tell him everything including the risks and dangers and made it boring while doing this.

They did some of this in the prior film as well, but the final reckoning had even more of it.

They could have cut 30 to 45 minutes out and kept on point better. It just bogged down several times when past films it cut to the chase quicker and had more consistent energy.

Even with same director the pacing and energy consistency of the last 2 films were much different and dragged things out much more than Rouge Nation and Fallout.

Cruise also whispered or talked in a very tired manner too much. I don’t think they needed to bring back some of the call backs or make them a big part in the film. Kittridge wasn’t as good as before.

The villain was the worst one of the series. I don’t even remember the villain of ghost protocol besides the female early on, but that’s better than sucking. Gabriel was wooden and annoying to keep having to listen to him talk (Cary Elwes wasn’t from older films or really in the last film, but he was also just bad in Dead Reckoning).

I thought he was miscast and ruined the movie. I mean, who even is that dude? I'm sort of kidding, I know who he is, I just think of him as a character actor from different television shows. Seeing him in this was jarring, if that makes sense.

I thought bringing back the guy from the secure room in the first movie was awesome, but otherwise agree.

The problem with the last one is that they had too much exposition and it killed the pacing. It should have been a much tighter movie. It was the same editor on both films so not sure why but it was slow.

Also, the problem with Gabriel is there really isn't enough of an explanation in the first one of how important he is to Cruise and his past, and so there is not a huge emotional connection. It was a decent enough movie, but if I'm ranking them I go.

MI Fallout
MI Ghost Protocol
MI Rogue Nation
MI 3
MI Dead Reckoning
MI
MI Final Reckoning
MI 2

It was good as a whole and had a couple thrilling a set pieces but the series peaked with Fallout.

Same ranking as me.

Final Reckoning had too much suspension of disbelief to get through the movie. In the past, Ethan would do crazy things, but this one was out there Fast and Furious style.

It was set pieces and stunt porn without a plot, which is how they bragged about doing these movies and it showed.

It's too long, the whole first hour is like previously on Mission Impossible.
Also, it's weird when one person starts a sentence then another person starts talking then another person ends the sentence and they do that over and over.

Don’t really care to revisit it in the future

Lots of homages to other movies as well. Top Gun (duh), North by Northwest, Hunt for Red October to name a few.

Also: Now we know what was in Marcellus Wallace’s briefcase.

I’m 22 minutes in. I don’t understand why so much is happening offscreen.

This is Mission Impossible. We are not supposed to have action scenes in digest form.

Definitely needed to be 30 minutes shorter. All the submarine scenes were incredible. Rouge Nation and Fallout back to back was where MI reached its zenith.
