First game, tips for ticket buying

I have zero interest in the NBA, but I was considering taking my nephew who loves it as a Christmas gift. I looked at Ticketmaster and if you go by their site all the decent to good Pels seats are sold out or only available using the ‘resale’ option, and the prices are astronomical.
All I hear is how they suck and the attendance is low, so what gives on the ticket situation? Any tips for landing higher end seats on a one off? Not picky on the opponent. I’ve gotta be missing something. TIA

TickPick app, but do not confuse it with DickPic…

You need to buy on SeatGeek, that’s who the Saints and Pels work with directly.
Your best bet is a middle of the week game against a non-marquee name. I don’t know if you want to surprise him before Christmas or tell him you’re taking him to a game after, but the Blazers on 12/11 and 1/2, Nets 1/14, Pistons 1/21, and Kings 2/9 should all be cheap.
If you’re not going to this next home game, screen shot the price for tickets in the areas you want and then check back like 3 hours before the game. The tickets are usually way cheaper closer to tip off because people are just trying to get rid of them. No one goes to the games.
I’d let your cousin pick out of whichever of those games you’re free for and you can just buy the best priced tickets that day. If you buy tickets in the lower level corner sections right next to the sideline, you typically will have no issue sitting in the sideline section. What I’ve done in the past is pulled SeatGeek back up right before the game starts and see the best tickets that are still for sale in the better section next to me and sit in those seats.
You should be able to get some lower level corner tickets for around $35 each and some sidelines for around $50. Like I said though, if there are a ton of tickets listed for sale, don’t worry about trying to buy up close because you’ll be able to move closer at these types of games.
