re: First game, tips for ticket buying
Posted by BenjaminFranklin on 12/4/25 at 11:53 pm to Nature Boy
You need to buy on SeatGeek, that’s who the Saints and Pels work with directly.
Your best bet is a middle of the week game against a non-marquee name. I don’t know if you want to surprise him before Christmas or tell him you’re taking him to a game after, but the Blazers on 12/11 and 1/2, Nets 1/14, Pistons 1/21, and Kings 2/9 should all be cheap.
If you’re not going to this next home game, screen shot the price for tickets in the areas you want and then check back like 3 hours before the game. The tickets are usually way cheaper closer to tip off because people are just trying to get rid of them. No one goes to the games.
I’d let your cousin pick out of whichever of those games you’re free for and you can just buy the best priced tickets that day. If you buy tickets in the lower level corner sections right next to the sideline, you typically will have no issue sitting in the sideline section. What I’ve done in the past is pulled SeatGeek back up right before the game starts and see the best tickets that are still for sale in the better section next to me and sit in those seats.
You should be able to get some lower level corner tickets for around $35 each and some sidelines for around $50. Like I said though, if there are a ton of tickets listed for sale, don’t worry about trying to buy up close because you’ll be able to move closer at these types of games.

re: Are Gayle, Lauscha, Loomis and Bensel delusional or indifferent

I mean, that’s kind of the bare minimum, right? Going to the games when you live in the same town?
I think Gayle cares but she’s insulated by people gaslighting her into thinking there’s nothing to worry about. Last year the whole team was injured. Zion was never healthy and really never got serious but there’s no way that the franchise couldn’t have gone all in at the time. There’s tons of excuses for past failures and this whole season will get a pass because of the coaching change and injuries.

Most folks want to leave the harsh winters for warmer weather as they get older. We are the most Catholic southern state. Makes sense.

In Meadowbrook in Mandeville...
Strong gusts but nothing really scary. Nothing sustained worth talking about. Rain hasn't really been an issue. I heard a couple of branches snap while under the back porch smoking a cigarette as well as a transformer blow but that's about it.
Lights have flickered but no loss of power what so ever.

re: Will "upgrading" my credit card affect my credit score?

As long as they will give you an increase without doing a hard inquiry, the higher limit will only help you. If they do a hard pull, that will hurt your score for a year but not very much. I would go for the increase.
If you ask a credit card company for an increase, they will almost always do a hard pull of credit. I'm a banker for one of the larger banks in the US and I have to deal with credit cards a lot.
What kind of AMEX card do you have? I know mine is a charge card with no pre-set spending limit and thus reports differently than a typical credit card. That said, I know AMEX does offer traditional credit cards. Long run, increasing your credit limit could definitely help you out if your AMEX is one of their credit cards. Short run, the hit will marginally drop your credit score.
Basically, if you're going to try to get a big loan in the next 3 months or so, hold off until after. Otherwise, do it.
My AMEX gold has an annual fee of $125 which kind of sucks. I also have a Chase Freedom and Discover Cash Back which both offer 5% back on different categories with no annual fee. Citi has some decent cards as well. As a result, I hardly use my AMEX... Maybe one lunch a month. You might want to check out other options if you pay your bill off monthly.
re: Lock in rate now or wait?
Posted by BenjaminFranklin on 7/31/12 at 11:00 pm to TheDoc
Locking at 3.25% was definitely a good idea.
The only way I would shop further would be if I was certain that I was going to move within the next 10 years and I was able to find 10/1 ARM around 2.9%, but even then I think I'd rather have the locked 3.25 just in case I decide to stay. Rates can't go down much lower, if at all. Inflation is already high. The purpose of the Fed keeping rates low is to stimulate borrowing => ^ money supply => hopefully us pulling out of these tough times. Given that inflation is already high (lowering rates further increases inflation), and money is already cheap, there's really no reason to further drop rates. The reason the dropped rates haven't stimulated the economy like they should is that most people who want to take advantage of cheap money can't qualify for it.

Facebook scares me due to legislative risk resulting from privacy/data mining issues. They aren't really innovating anything nor producing anything.

I was proud of our season, until I clearly see just how ugly our ten wins were to be playing who we are playing in the cotton bowl.
Dude, stop crying. We had a 10 win season but the way that the SEC shook down this year resulted in us being the #3 SEC West team. Some years a 10 win season will get you into the Sugar Bowl. Once it got us into the NCCG. This year, it didn't work out too well. Why are you even bringing up DiNardo? Do you realize how ridiculous and inapplicable that parallel is? We had 10 freaking wins. The team who is going to the Cap One Bowl isn't ranked as highly as we are, and we beat them. I don't think that accepting the Cotton bid has anything to do with lower expectations, rather, it's about the proximity to the University, the stadium in which it will be played, and our fans being sick of going to Orlando. Not to mention, the old timers respect the Cotton Bowl more. It has been going on since 1937 without changing names. Further, playing Texas A&M is cool just because we don't really play them anymore and they are one state over. I know people from A&M and I will undoubtedly phone them up and start the smack flowing. I don't know anyone who went to Michigan State.
To sum everything up: you need to take a chill pill because you are looking for something to complain about when you have no justified reason to do so, much like a spoiled child. The Cotton Bowl and the Capital One Bowl are not that different. I would rather play Texas A&M than Michigan State. I don't care about Michigan State.
re: AJ or MF

I'd start Bradshaw over those two. I don't know who I'd start as far as your receiver situation goes. Flip a coin. Usually when I flip a coin, I know my decision before I look to see if it's heads or tails because I find myself rooting for the coin flip to land a certain way.
With Roddie, he probably will get around 10 points but I don't see him getting more than 15. I think Floyd and AJ are both more likely to eclipse 15 this week but then again, they aren't as safe as playing Roddie. It's seriously a coin flip situation.

I want to wait until after week 9. MJD and Gore have the same bye week. I would almost certainly lose that week if I had to start AP, Reg Bush, and Gaffney as my RB, RB, flex players.

I'd start Floyd and AJ over Roddie this week. Roddie is playing @Philly.

Benson and Forte for AP
Posted by BenjaminFranklin on 10/15/10 at 10:57 am
This one team I have in a 10 team league is probably the best fantasy team that I have ever amassed in my 9 years of playing:
QBs: Big Ben, Cutler
RBs:
MJD (drafted him)
Gore (traded Best and Matthews for him)
Forte (drafted him)
Benson (traded Orton + Tolbert for him)
WRs:
Reggie Wayne (drafted 2nd round)
Roddie White (drafted 4th round. Incredible, I know)
Naane and Gaffney backups
TE:
Zach Miller
I'm undefeated and will almost certainly make the playoffs as everyone else in my division has at least 2 losses.
My reasoning:
Forte has a rough couple of matchups in the playoffs, the Patriots (19th against RBs) and Minnesota (5th against RBs). Benson plays Pitt (3rd against RBs). AP plays the Giants (26th against RB) and Chicago (15th against RB)
Gore plays Seattle and San Diego those weeks and MJD plays Oakland and the Colts.
I'm not going to start both Benson and Forte in the playoffs so I'd almost definitely get more total points because AP should score more than both of them, both weeks.
My only fear is that one of my big 3 RBs will go down during the season and then I'm screwed. I love having Benson and Forte simply because of the insurance.
Thoughts? I might wait until week 11 or so and then propose the trade. The guy who has AP is really weak at RB and would probably take that offer. He has AP, Michael Bush, and Tolbert.

Yea, I have Reggie Wayne and Roddie White on one of my teams and I just start them every week regardless of matchups. Has worked out pretty well thus far as I am undefeated in that league. Right now, there are very few receivers I would trade Roddie for. He hasn't scored more than 16 points in a game yet for me this season, but he hasn't scored less than 10 either. Dude is money.
And to the OP, FWIW, Britt is a free agent in that league and I have no interest in picking him up.

Kenny Britt has scored a TD in each of his last three games. However, in the first two of those games he had a total of 5 receptions. Thus, 2/5 receptions were TDs. He also had less than 30 yards receiving in both of those games. I don't see him continuing to get TDs. Besides, those first two games he still had less than 10 points even with the TDs. Roddy is good for 10+ every week.
Come on, man.

I'd play Hillis. If Cleveland manages to score, it will probably be Hillis who scores for them.

Yea, I'll probably start Moss, but should I then start Smith or Jackson in the flex spot?
