they were not going to get past first round (if in the playoffs at all) so he took the best opportunity now to make the jump. Who knows.

There's a lot of bluster coming out of Oxford but we're taking pretty much anyone we want from the staff right now and we will take several players in the portal after their early playoff exit.

They might play Tulane in the first round, who they already beat 45-10.
I’m not buying it

They know the truth. They are just very butthurt. It’s saban to bama (for us) times 50 since he left directly.
But eventually same as Saban for us they will realize it was good to have him when they did

He should've been. He has 2 returner starters from last year, he got his entire team from the portal, they probably will get bounced early and they played out of their arse most of the season. If Ole Miss really wanted him, they wouldn't be saying "we're gonna do this and that for you" they would've already done it.

They look like they are going to get a good draw and will be a solid favorite to win.

This isn't some grand conspiracy or a set of difficult to understand circumstances.
Kiffin saw the LSU job as the better job long term.
That said, he still wanted to coach Ole Miss in the CFP
Ole Miss, understandably, said no (LSU is a conference competitor/rival).
That forced Lane to either decline the LSU job so he could coach in the CFP, or take the LSU job and move on now. He did the latter.
Competitors compete. Ole Miss is 11-1. They beat one CFP team (Oklahoma) on the road, went toe-to-toe, on the road, with another (Georgia), and thoroughly dominated a potential 3rd CFP team (Tulane) I'm sure Kiffin felt he could beat a Tulane, Virginia, N. Texas, BYU at home.
None of this was about ducking competition. It was simply a matter timing that he had to leave for LSU now.

They will most likely make it past the 1st round even without Kiffin. They'll be getting a favorable matchup at home against Virginia or Tulane (who they already beat by 35). I really think they could have made a run to the Semi's if they had their head coach. Round 2 is shaping up to likely be against Indiana at a neutral site - a winnable game with Kiffin in charge, but hard to imagine Golding beating Cignetti.

I think they end up paired with an SEC team to weed out potentially 5 of 12 being SEC. If Big 10 gets 4+ you’ll possibly see in-conference matchups there too. They get paired with Oklahoma I think they lose. If bama beats GA they get the bye and could easily see OM having to deal with GA. They’ll beat Tulane again if that’s what they get. They lose to GA, OK, ND.
They got confident with that one spot bump but I bet it’s a setup.

Neither am I. I do think Lane knows they had an easy schedule and only had to beat 2 good teams. They went 1-1 vs those. He probably knew they wouldn't go far.
It would be telling if they play Tulane again and its close or they lose.

Everyone at OM is ticked off Kiffin left, they feel abandoned. They will say anything and everything, they will make up anything. Don't trust anything they say to be true. It's not a conspiracy, he took a better job where he could win a NC. They need to move on already, focus on their playoff game(s). They're fortunate Kiffin took them to new heights and playoffs 1st time in their history. Be thankful, it's Christmas.

The funny thing is if they win, they will say, "See, Lane sucks!"
If they lose, they will say, "See, Lane caused distractions and cost us a championship!"

He basically said Ole Miss isn’t a top football program where I should be if I consider myself a top football coach. Which he does. He didn’t want to lose the chance at LSU or Florida. Is he supposed to wait until he has a bad team? Then he may not get the big job.
I’m sure he thinks they had a real chance to win it all this year. But was dead set on moving up, and certainly not getting locked in to another deal at Oxford.

I think OM is plenty good to get out of the first round.

This may be the longest post I have ever agreed with fully.

Lane realized a lot of flaws with OM. That wasn’t high up on the list, IMO
