Potential Giannis trade with Atlanta

I watched Bill Simmons last night (I know) and he was talking potential Giannis trades and the Bucks blowing it up. One of the potential trade options was with the Hawks and they were discussing Trae and the Pels pick/bucks swap as the two biggest pieces. I keep thinking that us holding the bucks pick next year as a hold up to Milwaukee not moving forward with the restart. Is there any chance that we could get our first back this year as part of this deal? Perhaps a 3 team where the hawks send out Trae, we get our first back and the bucks get full rights to their first this year and next?
Hawks get Giannis and would give up:
1.Trae
2.our first this year
3. lesser of Pels/Bucks first next year
Bucks get Trae and full rights of their 2026 and 2027 picks but give up:
1. Giannis
Pels get back full rights to 2026 pick and give up:
1. Bucks swap rights next year
I tried to make this pick in Fanspo and it's so convoluted I can't tell if i actually made this trade correctly lol.

The Pels pick this year is likely more valuable than the Bucks pick next year. Pre lottery yall are a shoe in for top 2 pick.
The bucks with:
Young + existing core + top pick + more trade filler is probably winning 40 games in the East. Just about where the Hawks have been. Now if they turn around and deal Young too I could see them just doing full tear down and trying to get their picks but is that worth the additional capital? I doubt it.

I would push back on this a bit. They are currently on pace to win 34 games with Giannis. That win% isn't going up without him, and they would likely be worse next year if they play a rookie from this draft big minutes. I think if you asked Milwaukee if they would rather have both of their picks unprotected vs getting just the better of us-their pick this year I would imagine they would pick the former. It would allow them to do a full rebuild, while having a Trae to sell to the fans, who would be flipped once the young guys timeline is ready. Its about as good of a restart as you could get, and I bet they could get another pick or two out of it.

ATL doesn’t need pels involved to get Giannis, since we helpfully traded them a probable top 4 pick in a loaded draft. Trae plus pels pick plus future ATL picks probably gets it done
thanks Joe!!
thanks Joe!!

and dont forget, ATL gets the best of the MIL or NOP picks. they are gonna get giannis and we gave away to them the ammo to do it. unbelievable incompetence
imagine this...
MIL gets zion & and a pair of 1sts
NOP gets giannis
it was right fricking there if they'd only been patient. they already had a bit of leverage over MIL by owning that swap (and their 2027 pick) swap, same as they had over IND. generational mismanagement

I agree with you, everything you said is most likely correct, but I think Milwaukee would really not want to trade Giannis and go into next year without full control of their own pick, hell the next 3-4 years most likely. It's not like Trae is going to lead them out of the lottery by himself. As it stands now Milwaukee would be get the better pick between us and them this year, but we would be able to do the same thing next year, and if both teams are top 4 the pels get both 2027 picks. Maybe they gamble on 26-27. Maybe they want to do the full rebuild with their own picks. Its a toss-up to me.

MIL will have a great draft pick next year if they tear it down this year…they get the worse of the pels/mil 1st even if they don’t trade giannis. ATL gets the best, MIL gets the other one (it was a pels/bucks swap).
They have every incentive to tank if giannis wants out, as it will make the pick they get to keep better the more they lose. And there seems to be little danger that their pick will be better than ours anyway
next season (2027) pels get the better of theirs or the bucks pick. Since the pels are undoubtedly going to be atrocious next year too, they’ll get their own pick and that’s that.
It didn’t have to be this way but dumars traded himself out of the catbird seat and down into the gutter

Hawks: Giannis
Pels: Trae Young, 2026 NOP pick
Bucks: Zion, Herb, 27(own), 29, 31 picks from Hawks
We get our own pick back, try to rehab Trae and trade for some big piece next season when he is an expiring

I don’t think Milwaukee would want to take on Trae, I think they would actually prefer Zion with his non guaranteed deal, that would allow them to cut him and actually allow them to create up to a max salary slot next offseason depending on what happens with Kuzma

they aren’t trading giannis for expiring salary LOL. IF we had our pick, we could have sent them Zion plus our pick plus the swap next year plus whatever. But…we don’t, which is the point
edit sorry I didn’t see your post above. Depends on how bad they want to get out of Trae

We would re-route Trae to Sacramento for Sabonis or something like that methinks

I don’t think Atlanta goes for Giannis he doesn’t fit their timeline. Plus McNamara said they’re not interested

I could be wrong, I still barely understand the new CBA, but I don't think that Giannis or Trae can have their salary aggregated in a trade because of the cap. I think its has to be a 2 team or 3 team where all the individual salaries align. Then picks are used to sweeten in whatever way is necessary.

No team is above the 2nd apron so that rule does not apply
