I’m beyond thrilled to have Lane as our coach and couldn’t be more excited for our future. And for our sake I’m very happy Ole Miss didn’t let him coach the playoffs.

But, I truly don’t get why 99 percent of the media (Even members that I usually think have some decent takes) are saying Ole Miss had to fire him and there’s no way you could let him coach the postseason cause he’s gonna be tampering with players and you’ll be screwed for next year.

Bro, you’re Ole Miss. You’re in the middle of the best season in school history. Push your chips into the middle of the table and go for it. Next year is gonna be rough no matter what. You were dealt a shite hand but still try to play the hand and win. Don’t flip the table over and disqualify yourself because you’re embarrassed or have some stupid pride. You’re still screwed for next year anyway.

2019 was the best sporting season of my life. The next two years were brutal and O flamed out hard. And I’d take that trade over and over again. I could understand if you were bama, Ohio state, Georgia or even LSU kicking the dude to the curb. You’ve been there before. But Ole Miss just self sabotaged the first chance they’ve ever had at real glory because of pride. And we’re still gonna take their coaches and players and they still just promoted their DC to head coach. So what did you gain? David Pollack is the only media member I’ve really heard hammer this perspective home.

I hear ya, but Kiffin coaching Ole Miss in the CFP with one foot out the door is not the version of Kiffin they wanted. Imagine O coaching us in the CFP in 2019 having already announced he'll be coaching Bama the next year. It's just not practical.

It’s not about practicality it’s about ego and Ole Miss allowed theirs to all but destroy any chance they had at winning it all.

LK said it was not his doing - he “still has to live here”. He said it’s different for an AD.

Sounds like it wasn’t their AD being an arse. It was their AD carrying water for others around OM.

Either way - I agree that it’s short sighted. I’d have let LK coach tbe CFP game(s).

I hear you. But I think Bama to LSU is more comparable than LSU to Ole Miss. If LSU was a doormat year in and year out and 2019 was our first championship shot ever I would definitely want to just go for it and bet on us getting a good replacement at the end. Not to mention Lane seemed to have them pretty locked in against Mississippi State. And I promise you they’re not gonna be better coached now. Also the players wanted him to stay and coach. I get that it’s a crappy spot for Ole Miss. But I still think the better of the two options was to at least go for it. Don’t just quit cause you got your feelings hurt.

Media: can’t have division rival coaching and taking players later.

Reality: CLK will take whomever he wants from Ole Miss. Would have been early Jan’26 vs Nov 30.

As I have said: OM should have had CLK agree not to poach players or coaches until after season. And receive bonuses… and even negotiated other non-compete details. The OM AD was way over his head.
