Why is Kiffin abandoning his 11-1 playoff bound team?

I’m excited he’s coming to LSU next year. But it feels very weird he was either forced or chose to abandon the team he has led all season long. Imagine if you were a player on ole Miss roster and your HC abandons you and your teammates who are 11-1. If LSU was 11-1 and headed to the CFB playoffs and our coach quit and joined a rival in conference team everyone would be livid.
College football is a messy industry.

Because the signing period doesn’t allow you to wait and build a staff after the season.
We need to do away with the early signing period.

Because LSU is a way better job and 2025 OM has no chance at winning a natty. None. They are not even a top 15 roster.
The calendar is not Lane's fault.

He's not. He wanted to coach the team. Ole Miss isn't allowing him to do so.
Say what you want on either opinion on it, but you saying Lane is abandoning Ole Miss is 1000% untrue.

I think he knows he caught lightning in a bottle this season. He'll have to rely on some teams not being very good and to have a schedule that makes it easier for Ole Miss to make the playoffs. At LSU, that's not a concern.
That's my guess.

The Ole Miss AD forced him out. "Sign this extension or you are out". Lane didnt want to abandon the team. LSU was fine with waiting. Keith Carter forced his hand.

It had to be completed by December 3rd because of early signing.

He more than likely wanted the LSU job 4 years ago or the Alabama job after Saban retired. But no one offered. The offer finally went out and he took it. Pretty much as simple as that I think.

It was an offer he couldn't refuse.
I don't blame him.

Death Valley, chance to compete physically with bama and Georgia, and not have to live in a city with a population of 25k

He wanted to coach them thru the playoffs. Ole Miss wouldn't let him.
