Michigan State has hired Pat Fitzgerald.

Lost in all the Kiffin drama is that hire. I believe it will be a good hire for them, probably not for 2-3 years because Tucker and Smith left a shitshow there but Fitzgerald is a damn coach and can do well with the right resources. Plus he’s out for scalps with all the bullshite that Northwestern put him through with no merit.

He had a good run but he’s clearly washed. His replacement took a 1-11 team to 8-5 in year 1.

Fitzgerald would be a good hire for anyone in terms of coaching ability. Anyone who can win over 100 games at Northwestern and leave with a winning record has to be very good.

Their all-time winning percentage without Fitzgerald is 43%. His winning percentage was 55%. Drop those last two years you want to judge him by and it’s over 60%.
They’ve finished their season ranked in the top 25 7 times in the last 75 years. 5 of those 7 seasons were with Fitzgerald coaching them.
They’ve won 7 bowl games in their entire history. Fitzgerald won 5 of them.
But sure yeah Fitzgerald is arse and any coach can win at Northwestern.
