Here's the deal

Ole Miss is in a really bad spot right now. Lane is coming to LSU. LSU is not forcing his hand to come right this second. Ole Miss does not want him to coach the playoff. However, the only way for them to officially do that is to fire him and pay him a $36 million buyout. Ole Miss is trying to figure this all out which is what's delaying the announcement.

There’s nothing to figure out - it’s a Cold War situation unless Lane willingly leaves or they find a way to get him to leave for cause.

Keith Carter isn’t going to give him $40 to walk away and Lane appears to be digging his heels in.
