Kiffin (at OM) Vs. Heupel (at UT Jr.) Vs. Drink (at Mizzou) Vs. Dilly (at ASU) Numbers

Posted on 11/25/25 at 2:58 pm
Overall Record:
Heupel: 45-18 (0.714)
Kiffin: 54-19 (0.740)
Drink: 45-28 (0.616)
Dilly: 22-15 (0.595)
Record Vs. T25 Teams:
Heupel: 11-13 (0.458)
Kiffin: 10-10 (0.500)
Drink: 7-18 (.280)
Dilly: 6-6 (.500)
Record Vs. T10 Teams
Heupel: 3-7 (0.300)
Kiffin: 4-7 (0.364)
Drink: 1-11 (0.083)
Dilly: 1-5 (0.200)
Average Recruiting Class Ranking per On3:
Heupel: 14.8
Kiffin: 19.6
Drink: 23.8
Dilly: 49.3
NY6/CFP Appearances
Heupel: 2-2 (0.500)
Kiffin: 2-3 (0.400)
Drink: 1-4 (0.200)
Dilly: 1-1 (0.500)
Based off of these numbers, LSU needs to be staying far away from Drink. I'm not sure if Dilly is ready for a job of this magnitude. Doesn't have but a few years of HC experience. He may have just caught lightning in a bottle last year.
Saw some guy in another thread get shite for suggesting Heupel as a backup for Kiffin. No clue why because Heupel is pretty darn close to Kiffin statistically. Kiffin also has an extra year skewing his stats, so I'd give Heupel the benefit of the doubt that his numbers would be closer than what's shown.
Heupel's teams at UT Jr. have looked very similar to Kiffin's OM teams. I think if Hendon Hooker hadn't torn his ACL in 2022 and we had the 12-team instead of the 4-team, then UT Jr. could've made a good playoff run.

An absolute joke we are considering Drink.. especially at the 10m+/yr it would take.

Heupel is basically Kiffin without Twitter.

Yea, hopefully Verge and the boys are just doing this for show and not being serious about it. It'd just be BK 2.0.

Kiffin has the best resume on paper. Also he has the most experience, coached under Saban for years, and failed the most out of all these coaches. Those failures are a great opportunity to learn.
He’s the surest bet out of all these candidates.
Dilly has only been a head coach for a few years but he’s been a big time OC, think he can handle a big time SEC job.

Now that's some legit data. Thanks for sharing it. If success is defined by LSU as wins then it is pretty easy to see why Kiff would do well here. Heupel is a very good coach as well. I don't think that I would be disappointed with either.

Agreed on experience, but Heupel is basically a 1B statistically as HC. I didn't count total HC experience, but something worth noting is that Heupel led some solid teams at UCF. He was HC when LSU played them in Fiesta bowl year before NC.

Tennessee has more resources/money than ole miss

Also telling that Ole Miss average recruiting ranking is around 20th. He has to know he'll do much better than that at LSU.

No it’s not. The numbers aren’t even right. Kiffin is 115-53 overall as a college head coach and coming into this season he was 11-24 against ranked teams.
So not only are the numbers not right, they don’t show any adjustment for any advanced stat like strength of opponent. Beating #25 Tulane and #6 Alabama are not the same thing. Just like losing to #24 Kentucky or #1 Georgia aren’t.

For like two and a half years where he was unceremoniously fired during the post season

I know it’s not a big sample size, but Dillingham has done more with way less talent. I think he could be great at LSU with all of the talent and resources.

I also think its more impressive winning at ole miss than Tennessee

Just curious, how do you calculate this? Where do you get your info?
I see comments like this thrown around all the time, but I have no clue how random individuals on the internet know exactly how deep a whole university’s pockets are
Just seems like a weird assumption to throw out there

Heupel would be an excellent fallback option if Kiffin doesn't come here, IMO.

Agreed, and he's brought UT Jr. out of the gutter that it was in. They've showed flashes, but have had some unfortunate luck with the QB position.

I actually care a lot more about what lane is doing at Ole Miss than how he did at USC 12 years ago.
believe it or not.
