Brian Kelly era in a nutshell

Brian Kelly era produced a Heisman winning QB on a championship offense, and one of the worst defenses in program history. The Brian Kelly era spent millions on a championship level defense that produced, and put out one of the worst offenses in program history. Brian Kelly teams were never on the same page, never taking the field as one unit in sync. But there was some good during the BK era, winning the SEC Western Division his first year, Top 10 wins against Ole Miss and Alabama, 3 straight bowl victories, and 17 SEC wins which is third in that span only behind Georgia (22) and Alabama (19). But not even sniffing the college playoffs and the reason he left ND was to win a Natty and that's where the disappointment sets in and after Saban, Miles and Coach O won Natty's he failed miserably. Bye, Felicia you failed LSU and didn't fulfill your obligations, but yet want to get paid like you did. STAY OUT OF THE SOUTH!!!!!

BK had nothing to do with this. In all the years he's been coaching has he ever produced an offense that looked anywhere near that? That was the result of a good OC and an elite NFL QB with 2 1st RD WRs
I also would definitely not call this year's defense "championship level"
The most shocking part of the BK era more than anything is where he's left us.
I thought worst case scenario, he can't get us to the promise land but leaves the roster and program in good shape on his way out.
Turns out our roster looks horrific going into next year and I just stand here totally perplexed at what this drunk little frick was doing the last 4 years.

Don't forget the generationally bad special teams in 2022. He had all time awful units in every aspect of football.

It'll likely be worse.
When BK got here there was little depth.
However, there was a decent amount of top tier talent, especially on offense. As well as some solid commitments that helped propel them in his first season.
Just look at his team's performance as he got "his" guys in and more of the previous staff's talent left.

Brian Kelly is who he’s always been and no one should be surprised. He will be good but never elite. 9-3 is where he will always sit because he has a track record at multiple stops of not winning big games. Looking back, I’m sure he wishes he would have stayed at ND and we wish we would have hired someone else. The fact that he’s a complete a-hole makes it easy for everyone to root against him.

If we had this defense with the JD5 Heisman offense we're in the playoffs with a serious chance at the Natty, so yes a championship level defense.
