Ok Im taking my first cruise next month to the Bahamas and have no idea what to expect from these meals on the cruise. Are they any good? Taking the Carnival Conquest out of Galveston.

Don't expect anything special.

Did Carnival out of New Orleans, and it is hard to produce quality food in such mass quantities. They will have plenty of different things for you to choose, but nothing is standout.

You shouldn't encounter any bad food for sure. I've been on three or four (mostly on carnival) and the food has typically been good to very good. As long as you don't expect to be blown away with great food, you shouldn't be disappointed.

I'm getting on a Royal Carribean ship in May, it'll be interesting to see how food quality compares between different lines.

I found the food on Royal to be better than the food on Carnival

I did the Carnival Conquest in May...very disappointing food. Good cruise, bad food, imho. The prime steakhouse is worth doing a few nights though.

I have heard this but reading cruise boards it seems like Royal has fallen behind Carnival in the last year or so. Dint really know though.. I would expect the desserts would be good though.

What was bad about it? Im wondering if they are pushing people to do the supper club thing.

the buffet food was pretty good and pretty good options

the dining room was pretty underwhelming

my biggest advice- do not get anything that reqires a specific temperature

we tried prime rib and the beef wellington, after that.....stuck with pasta/chicken etc

That's pretty good advice. The cuts of beef usually aren't very good and the kitchen is more focused on getting a lot of food out quickly rather than getting you meat to the correct temperature.

Catman, I would have to say this is spot on. It didn't make me sick or anything like that, just very underwhelming.

Do they do theme meals to where you are going? Or is it pretty much standard fare? Cruise Im on is one of the first Conquest is taking to Bahamas and Key West would be interesting to have conch.

In my experience everything has been pretty standard.

I have been on 3 cruises on RCI and 9 on Carnival and I have liked the food on Carnival the best.

On the Conquest, I really liked the sandwiches at the deli...especially the corned beef. There is a out of the way seafood place that has really good boulliabase.

In the dining room I liked the lobster bisque, onion tart, pumpking soup, the lobster, and the best thing on the entire ship is the molten chocolate cake (or fourless chocolate cake).

Breakfast is usually good because you can get omelets made to order. The pastries are also delicious.

Lunch and dinner are usually hit or miss.

I've only been on one cruise, but I found out one tip that works. If the "waiter" says no to a request, you ask,"Why not?"

For example, if the main courses are a choice between, say, chateaubriand and a lobster tail, ask them for both. 9 times out of 10, they will honor your request if you push them a little. But don't be an a-hole about it.

You can get food to order as well. It may take a little longer, but if you are nice, they will do it for you.

Bring a credit card with lots of room on it for the bar bill you are handed at the conclusion. Don't fall for the lobster.

Food won't be great. The food on the buffet is actually better than the dining rooms... so fill up on burgers and fries at lunch.

Never ever order a steak over medium.
