Has anyone discussed the idea of getting a coordinator from the NFL?

Running an NFL offense / defense and leading a college program are completely different skillsets
You can have both but it's rare, and those people will lean towards wanting to stay in the NFL (often with NFL HC aspirations)

Surprised Brian DaBoll’s name hasn’t been floated around any. He had a successful stint in college under Saban.
I don’t think he cares for college ball, but it’s weird to not even see his name floated.

Championship defense at Michigan, very good defense with the Chargers.
No offense to Sheppard, but he inherited a great defense that had piles of injuries last yr including Hutchinson. Had he not played here, no one would be mentioning him at all.

Are you talking about former CFB coaches, that went and came back? Saban, Kiffin, Harbaugh, Spurrier, Lou Holtz, etc?
Or the ones that never coached in college like Belichick, Wannstedt, Mike Sherman, Bill Callahan?

I like Shep but this is not a learn how to be a head coach type of job. He had no experience college coaching. He has no experience with recruiting. He has no coached long enough to develop connections to make good hires on his staff.
Besides most coordinators in NFL want to be NFL HC one day. College football is year round. Offseason is spring practice and development. Then talking with training staff about summer workout program. All year recruiting. Then preparing in season and recruiting. NFL coaches do not worry about that.
As far as getting a college coordinator, I like Glenn Schumann ( UGA DC). He worked under both Saban and Smart. Was one of Kirby first hires when he took over at UGA. Helped Roquan Smith get the Butkis Award. UGA has remained one of the better defenses even after Lanning left and he was promoted from Co-DC to DC. Can help bring back LSU to being physical.

Is Daboll a dick? I didn’t know that, if so. Never had any problems in Tuscaloosa during his short time here.
Lots of fired NFL coaches have been great in college.
