And my goodness the behind the plate umpires were absolutely awful! I know we complain about the umps we have today, but they have come a looong way.

If the strike zone wasn't batter's box to batter's box the final scores would have been 38-35. It's a miracle a pitcher or 3rd basemen were never killed with those lethal bats. Cap shots off the end of the bat traveled over the fence.

Little leagues are experimenting with AI umpires for balls/strikes.

We will see AI umpires for higher levels of baseball during our lifetime.

The strike zone for Doug Thompson in the NC game vs Bama would make Eric Gregg blush.

I wonder if the zone will be adjustable on those. Some games the strike zone has to grow to get out of a walkfest.

You can adjust the sensitivity on the computer. There is an umpire present to over turn egregious mistakes but they never do.

The machine are taking over………

Pretty sure we saw this in The Terminator movies

I’ve been saying that in every “we have to use more AI” meeting we have. I’m like the only exec who’s acting like it’s possible these machines can turn.

That is a great point, and probably why bama beat lsu 28-2 that year. What years did they use those loaded bats?

To be fair the strike zone has always been an issue. Now its almost too small. But back then it did quite comical with some of the strike calls being 3 balls off the plate instead of just 1.

New movie idea. A major league team goes back in time to destroy AI umpires so they can win a World Series

Maybe AI will write it.
