Sure, just don’t guarantee the contract or give him 7 years. 4 years $40-44 million is fine. Worst case you’re on the hook for $10 million if it doesnt work out.

What really makes no sense is extending these guys for no reason like the Elko extension this week. Theres no chance he’s going anywhere and you extend him based off 9 games

Penn State was making a run for Elko they had no choice but to extend him.

I didn’t know his salary until I looked it up.

If LSU settles in Drinkwitz and pays this guy $10m+ per yr to leave Mizzou, I think I’m out.

You get into +11 million and you are almost in Ryan Day territory. You know he will ask for a huge buyout too. Drinkwitz is the 11th highest paid coach now and after LSU likely top 5. Crazy, lol

Then he can stay at Missouri

1) his current contract is 75% guaranteed if fired for cause

2) he has a $5m buyout

3) salary increase next year to $9.5m

LSU would have to exceed the annual, pay $5m to Mizzou, and guarantee at least 75%

If the powers that be do that with Drink, that’s just putrid.

Eli Drinkwitz's Current Contract Details

Key Financial Terms
- **Total Value**: Approximately **$46.5 million** over the full term (2025–2029).
- **Annual Salary Schedule**:
- 2025: $9 million
- 2026: $9.25 million
- 2027: $9.25 million
- 2028: $9.5 million
- 2029: $9.5 million

Drinkwitz's 2025 salary ranks him tied for fifth among SEC head coaches, behind only Georgia's Kirby Smart, Alabama's Kalen DeBoer, Texas' Steve Sarkisian, and LSU's Brian Kelly.

#### Buyout and Termination Clauses
- **If Drinkwitz Leaves Missouri**:
- Before December 1, 2025: $5 million owed to the university.
- The buyout decreases over time, dropping to $1 million if he departs before December 2029.
- **If Fired Without Cause**: Missouri would owe Drinkwitz 75% of his remaining contract

I feel like the only guy on this board that thinks Drink would be great at LSU.

I think he is a good enough coach to have a lot of success here. Hell nobody thought much of Miles when he arrived.

I also think Drink is just goofy enough like Miles and would love our culture and fit right in.

I guess Im the only one that thinks it could work.

You have been defending Drinkwitz because of his coaching record. I have no major issues with him there. It’s Mizzou and he has done mostly what he can. He is not a bad football coach at all although maybe goofy. I just don’t think he is a top 5 coach. It’s a matter of pricing himself out of the market. I’d rather take a cheaper on the rise coach we can cut bait with easily.

Just wait until Dec 2 and like I said, if it’s a 4 year deal that’s fine. He’s getting 3 years no matter what. Just don’t give him a 3 year extension after year 1 if he wins 9 games to where you’re on the hook for $50 million after year 4.

If he doesn’t like those terms, don’t hire him

For $10m+ a year?!

GTFO

Maybe if the guy was making $5m at Mizzou and LSU bumped him to $7m.

But to go 8 digits for him is f’ing gross

1. That’s a loser mindset

2. If you don’t give him an unneeded extension this isn’t an issue

I don’t think Drinkwitz is a bad coach. He’s a decent football coach, but money does factor in. I’m sure our donors won’t be too excited if in 3-4 years we have to pay another 50 million or so. If he becomes our coach I think it’s a big mistake, but I’ll support him of course. I just don’t think he is anywhere near a top 5 coach and that’s what he will want.
