“Killing” All of Hamas Won’t Eradicate Israel’s Problem - Hamas is More Idea than Group

Hamas is not just an organization; it is the militant expression of an idea—that Israel must be destroyed and replaced by an Islamic state.
As long as millions of Palestinians (and many others across the Muslim world) see their identity, dignity, and faith itself as inseparable from resisting Israel’s existence, killing every current Hamas member will only create space for new recruits and new leadership.
Islam, for many in that region, has fused with Palestinian nationalism so tightly that humiliation and occupation keep fertilizing the soil in which that idea grows. Simply eliminating today’s fighters without addressing their underlying grievance and identity simply guarantees there will be another generation of fighters (at least).
At bottom, the World will continue to pay for this Old Testament feud through mass migration spilling out of the region, higher energy prices, and threat of nuclear proliferation as those weapons become more and more accessible.

So arresting all criminals won’t stop the idea of crime so we just let criminals go?
I believe we’ve done that from 2020 to 2024.
Worked out great’n’all.

the problem will take care of itself if we just disassociate from the conflict... simple as that. not our fight

Good point, RFK...
Kill 'em all.

So, like Antifa, Hamas is an idea?
Huh.
Huh.

It is a rhetorical tactic. "There is no 'Hamas'. That's just a boogeyman Israel uses to engage in genocide. But, if there was a 'Hamas' and they believed that '...from the river to the sea...', I would agree with them."
I just replace it with that and it lets me understand their POV perfectly.
Every single person who says it (about Hamas and/or Antifa), thinks it.

How did they deal with the Nazis? That was a belief system as well.
I’ll wait.

It isn't just Hamas. There are multiple terrorist groups involved and they've all fought in Gaza. Islamic Jihad is probably the most worrisome being that it has the best toehold in the West Bank.
Anyway, if you truly want to deal with Hamas you have to get the UN out of the equation, but we refuse to do that while also refusing to force the UN to recognize Hamas and other groups that it works hand-in-hand with as terrorist organizations.

Too late for that. Too many radicalized Muslims in the US now. Plus, this isn’t a recent problem. The Barbary Pirates attacked us and took people as slaves because that was the will of Allah. This started at the beginning of the United States. Thomas Jefferson and James Monroe struck back.
If there was no Israel, the crazies would still hate us.

Eliminating the military forces that neighboring countries "aren't responsible for" will at least minimize it.
They need to clean all of Israel of Arabs too.

You don’t have to defend Islam to understand Israel’s indiscriminate killing of over 60,000 Palestinians (mostly women and children) does nothing to bring the conflict to a peaceful resolution.

Don't fool yourself into believing in the innocence of women and children.
Women are just as, if not more-so, vicious... and children, well, they grow up.
Killing over 60k palestinians has brought them closer to peace than having let them live and multiply.

Why did Hamas start this? When you launch a sneak attack and murder, rape and kidnap people there will be retribution. Hamas attacked an enemy it could not defeat and caused their own people to die. Even now, thoroughly defeated they won’t surrender and spare their people the hardships. They could end all of this in a minute.
Look if Israel had started this I would agree with you but they didn’t.

Japan had this same nationalism/religion mindset but even more entwined and it disappeared overnight. If you beat 'ideas' into submission, they go away.
