Kelly has a duty to mitigate clause. He has to pursue employment.

If he doesn’t work to get another job he gets nothing.

That’s why he’s trying to play big in the PR game to get us to settle for far above what he should get

All accounts are that LSU has been pushing for a lump sum payout from the start. If the duty to mitigate is as solid as folks seem to believe, LSU ought to sit back and relax. Even looking at Penn State, it’s entirely possible (if not likely) that the lump sum turns out to be more than the PV of the buyout they would have actually paid.

I think the reality is that if Kelly doesn’t actually want to coach again, the duty to mitigate becomes rather hard to enforce. Which puts LSU in a rough negotiating position unfortunately.

He is formally suspended indefinitely while LSU is investigating the "cause". Just drag it for a long time until he finds a job.

I think LSU made a calculated decision to try to get the lump sum to have a clean break and to also not have to worry about litigation to enforce it.

Clearly BK and SW werent on good terms at the conclusion and the university clearly thought he was lazy and checked out.

The likelihood that he legitimately tries to get another job seem slim.

I understand the sentiment; however, check out the Bret Bielema case with Arkansas.

With Franklin getting a deal for $40M, Kelly is worth at least that much if actually had any desire to continue coaching. LSU’s lump sum offer of $25M-$30M is more than reasonable in light of that fact.

Kelly is damaging his image beyond coaching too.

Going to your contract, talks, though, yes, offset language does matter.

how is this the worst part of the Brian Kelly fiasco? that a bunch of rich dudes have to pony up and pay him off, with their own money, not mine or yours?

If they want to pay it I dont give a shite they wont give it to us if kelly finds employment and they dont owe him as much.

id say the worst part of the kelly fiasco is the shitty football team he trotted out this year and that he never came close to living up to the expectations we have.
